MMA forgotten stories thread

Anybody remember years ago when GSP said Nick Diaz was one of his favorite fighters? He had reasoned at the time, that he always liked bad-boys/villians because they were so unlike him. I think it was during a fight-night interview, around the lead-up to his fight with Shields, but I can never find the clip.
he's said this several times,he also said the same about Conor on JRE

Also concerning interviewing Fedor,it was kind of a party atmosphere. It was after a m-1 press conference, and they were serving skrewdrivers at the bar. So some of the ints we got, with Trigg, and Mauro were really casual. With Fedor I sat down at a table with him,and Fedor was also drinking a Skrewdriver, and he had a female translator with him,she was kinda hot,not like the one he has been using alot in strikeforce etc. Anyway yeah i was nervous as hell, and it was more unnerving cos i had to to talk to him through her, which threw me off. It was a 5 minute interview, and its not on the site anymore, but i have the audio saved,so maybe ill transcribe it and post it here. Fedor had an aura,I wont say it was orange, but I seent it. A cool customer. I feel blessed to have this 5 mins with a guy i looked up to so much.

Not sure if this qualifies for forgotten story, but I was just wondering "Where the hell did Junie Browning go?" after that Mir/Nogueria season of TUF where they hyped him as a bad boy.
For those who didn't watch, he commanded a lot of TV time that season due to his wild behavior/short fuse and willingness to say anything. This led to a hype bubble that he kept popping with losses, refusal to take accountability for his losses ("lower weightclass here I come").
I expected to read he was inactive but surprisingly his Wikipedia page led me to his most recent fight; a TKO after 4 years on the shelf.

He looks like he's been drinking (soft around the middle) but he showed some ring IQ; not sure the quality of opponent but still... he didn't waste time.

Will Junie ever make it back to the UFC? I would have said never, but I didn't expect to see that he fought again. I assumed he washed out.
He seemed to just crumble under the weight of the image the UFC built for him. His attitude softened noticeably once out of the house. I came to think his TUF season was basically a case study of someone with emotional problems allowed unlimited alcohol and deprived of outside stimulation

In the current WWE/WME era, now seems more likely than ever for him to come back. If he could reapply himself as an adult, picked up his old gimmick... Could he be the Colby of lighter weight classes? I doubt his skills make an impact but could see WME getting behind him.

Theres really no excuse for Junie's antics on that show, that guy was a complete mess, and embarassing.

Oh yeah and Gary Millen was at that m-1 thing and we all made it a point to ignore his ass. ahahaha

I interviewed Randy Couture when he was married to Kim. It was at an IFL event, but he just happened to be there,so of course we went over and tried to get a word.So when i interviewed him,she was there, and of course she chimed in on the interview hahah. Anyway she was cool. Its kinda weird to remember how she actually fought in MMA with no prior martial arts background, and at some point got her jaw broken.

Its interesting to note how people come in and out of MMA.

WOW she kept fighting long after they divorced, and kept racking up losses. Randy kept training her that whole time it seems!

yes but i would have liked to see him take fights like Renzo, against Henderson,Frank Shamrock,Oleg etc
He agreed to fight Smashin´Machine in Pride, but then got sick (flu)...who knows...

When Cro Cop was in the midst of his MMA slump, MMA legend Fedor Emelianenko, came out and expressed his desire to see the head-kick master to hang up his gloves.

“I like Fedor and I respect him a lot, but it’s not his job, it’s not his concern to act like my mother and to give any kind of advice, especially to me. I think I’m old and I believe wise enough that I will know when it’s time to go. What happened to me in that fight, it could happen to anyone. Really, I don’t know why Fedor said it.
Later on I heard that Fedor is saying this and that. I don’t think he should do it. Of course he has the right to give his opinion, he’s a legend of mixed martial arts. But I didn’t like his comment, to tell you the truth. … I never gave a comment on his fights. Every loss of Fedor’s, I [felt] like it was my own.
At the end of the day, we used to fight together in the Pride ring, so many time we shared a dressing room. I was fighting in his town and he didn’t show up for the press conference. If Fedor came to my hometown, I would find him a few days before, I would take him to lunch, dinner, whatever, shake hands to see him. And I saw him only in the ring. But that’s him. I think and feel differently.I don’t have his phone number, he doesn’t have my phone number. We are not in contact, but I always liked him as a fighter, and especially, we have good memories from Japan, both of us. At the end of the day we were bothers in arms, sharing a few times the dressing room. I was sorry for every loss he had. I was shocked and I was so sad, and at the end of the day I didn’t expect that for him. But enough about Fedor. I really wish him all the best. I’m not mad at him, I just think he shouldn’t have [said] that kind of a comment to me.”

classy !

"All I can say is this is the happiest day of my life. Definitely. I was waiting for this for 10 long years and finally - I knew that I'm the best, but some circumstances just didn't let me do that. To go to the end, and I proved to all the people who were talking that I'm finished, that I'm done after Fedor's fight, that I am number one. Believe it or not, and I swear with everything I got, I told myself, 'If I don't take this belt, it will be my last MMA fight in my life.' I would quit fighting, I swear. And that's why I said, 'now or never'. And plus I was training like never before, and I was motivated, and I knew this is it.

There is no [bad] blood between us [myself and Silva.] I would like to know how he is, and I would like to shake hands with him. That's all. I have nothing against him, really. But I told you before, he is just acting weird and he refused any kind of contact, but I'm not mad at Wanderlei, I don't hate him. I respect him as a fighter, and I would like to see him if he's still here.

I'm very happy, this is the day of my life, and I'm only sorry for one thing - that my father couldn't live long enough to see my success. He died 12 years ago and I dedicate this belt for my father."
