MMA before the USADA era will be seen as illegitimate

Barry Bonds is the home run king yet very few legitimately consider him as such even though he never got busted for PED use. 20 to 30 years from now, pre-USADA MMA will have a huge asterisk next to it.

Most title defenses (Anderson)? Youngest champion (Jones)? For future fans, who are infants now, none of these things will truly count. Fighters from this era who truly were clean will be painted with the same PED stained brush.

The GOAT? Nobody who is currently brought up in GOAT debates (Anderson, GSP, Jones) will merit a mention 20-30 years from now.

It will be hard for current fans to dismiss the epic fights and memories of the pre-USADA era. But for future fans, they will easily accept that legitimate MMA started in July 2015.

What are you going to tell your kids and grandkids when they say "But everybody cheated back then?"
GSP is a huge reason we have random testing, and not only pushed for it, he did it, on his own dime.

Silva and Jones both popped hot, so they are for sure tarnished.

IMO this is only by the people who try to forget of how this sport started.
It would be akin to saying the NBA Greats of the 70's are terrible because they wouldn't be able to play with the likes of Lebron & Cia.
That's asinine.
In the time they fought, that was the reality.

People were less well rounded, but training was terrible as well. Technology evolved, trainers got better.
Food got better. Training equipment got better.

You can't compare old era with the new one. Yet there will be no * near anyone. It was what it was. Hating on it just makes you look stupid.
Because it was exactly because of them, that we have the sport of MMA as it is now.

Go watch Tyson vs. Holyfield and tell me if you feel the same, all the old boxing champs are seen as legitimate.

I'll be one of those nostalgic, grumbling old men and tell them "screw these new kids, they ain't no Georges St-Pierre!".

and then we can bring up the fact that GSP actually did random testing on his own time

Let's stick to baseball for a second...

If the first 65 + years of baseball isn't seen that way then why would MMA???

We can have the discussion of who was better " Josh or Babe " but then it spiders out into a different discussion ....

Who cares, you can't go through any part of MMA history without fan bois and haters trying to muddy it up.

Find confidence in yourself

Certainly possible, especially if one assumes that the sport will continue to "clean" itself up.

However, with how fast our technology and medicine progresses, I fail to see a future with less PEDS, only more. People will find new ways to cheat, or the rules will change to accommodate that. Shit in 60 years we might be arguing over the usage or cybernetic implants or something.

Guys were probably on PEDs for UFC 1. Hard to imagine that changing too much

Maybe, but he didnt play his domestic career in the best leagues. So he isn't clearly the best.
Not true at all. The Brazilian league was hugely competitive during Pele's era. In fact, it was one of the best leagues in the world. Pele's club FC Santos was one of the best teams in the world in the 1960s. The top South American players were playing in South America back then, not in Europe.

MMA before USADA will be seen as the era that MMA existed, before everyone got banned, fans lost interest, organizations closed shop and the sport faded into obscurity.

Yeah clearly wasn't the greatest they just hand out three world fucking cup trophies to anyone .....

Just ask Lio Messi And Cristiano Ronaldo

Now please show me how he has better skill than any of those two. He was the best of his time, that is known. Best of all time is a joke that only challenged people believe

Barry Bonds IS the home run king and your argument is invalid. We don't know which fighters were on it so you just move on

Oh ffs a few cheaters get popped and you think the world is ending, get a grip

I firmly believe the opposite will be true. Baseball is a numbers game, that's why people get up in arms over Bonds, Sosa, McGwire, etc. They skewed numbers by cheating, making them unreachable naturally, so, I can understand baseball fans outrage. Combat and high-impact physical sports are totally different. I think in the future, people will look back on this era wondering why we forbade these kinds of athletes to perform at their best and healthiest considering what they go through in action and in training for our entertainment. I'll say it again, but only in sports do we hold back medical science. We'll look back on this the same way we are starting to view marijuana and other soft recreational drugs.
Do you know why PEDs are illegal? It's not because they improve sports performance (because in that case creatine would also be illegal), it's because they have very serious side effects!!! Read something about that and I guarantee you, you'll change your opinion.
