My bad, I was off on the year. Yes, it was Payne. I'm 43. We went through the benning course winter of 04
edit: another odd fact. I went to infantry school with Pat Tillman. Mind you he wasn't in my company, he was in the same BN and was a few weeks ahead of me. The first time I met him we had KP together. The guy was a beast. Definitely stood out from your typical pencil necked privates you see day in, day out. RIP to him.

@crabmeat I found a pic from Camp Wilson circa 19 years ago someone took with one of those old disposable cameras.

One of my SOI instructors was a big black dude built like a brick shithouse named Payne. Only he wasn't funny like Major Payne.
One of my SOI instructors (squad instructor) at ITB ended up in my platoon when he became a reservist. I was his PLT Sgt. That was weird.
He did about 13 drills in Tampa (three weekends) and ejected due to my advice. Then, he decided to drill with 3rd Recon, where he belonged anyhow.

It’s really good knowing so many sherdoggers are vets. I sure as hell miss serving alongside you all. I miss it every single day and I always will. I guess it’s kinda comforting knowing I can come here and see vets. I’ve been gone so long, nobody even remembers me, but I just wanted to say hello, and cheers to everyone. You guys are missed. I hope life has been treating you well, and that of your family. God bless.
