Military Roll Call! Veterans, GTFIH!

And at least someone agrees that mold is a more important issue to tackle. :)

I’m willing to bet the $21 million for mold comes from construction funds. The Naming of bases comes from sustainment funds. So different colors of money are used. So saying the 21 million should have been used for mold, it ain’t that easy. That money was allocated a year or more ago. Mold money will be allocated from a different pot.
While mold is probably more important to tackle, the renaming is more visible especially the past few years and it’s an easy “win.”

Plus with the mold stuff, you have a contractor involved. A very large contractor. Who’s gonna pay how much and when will most likely be sorted out through legal/contracting. With some nudge from the Pentagon. So a very slow process.
It's funny how quickly stuff gets fixed though once it's been exposed on social media. There's a thread on r/Army about a pipe in the barracks that's been busted for weeks and the reason it's finally getting taken care of is because the PAO for the SgtMaj of the Army has a Reddit account and saw it.
Let's also not pretend that something like mold in the barracks is a recent thing. We're talking decades by now.

I for one am glad that two things can be true at the same time.

The names of traitorous slavers being relegated to cesspit of history and mold being mitigated.

Life is good and I'm gonna go have a cold one. :)

Cheers to Ft. Moore and Ft. Liberty!

I agree. I’m not making any excuses, but the Armed Services have an lengthy history of ignoring or slow riding issues that directly impact service members. Agent Orange, burn pits, water issues, exposure to radioactive material in Iraq etc. Same as it ever was I guess.

Changing names and street sign on a post doesn’t expose any one to lawsuits or future monthly payments. Being sick because of mold and it being service connected isn’t too far fetch imo.

During a VA appointment last week, I was asked if I were around any burn pits. I told the doc about my time in the Philippines and burn pits I was around. They were like "Hey, do you want to get into the study?"

I said no. I'm good to go with retirement and VA care. I didn't want to take anything away from another veteran who might need it more than I.

So.. awkwardly changing subject...

Just picked up.a BiPAP today, any of you other old fucks dealing with sleep apnea?

But seriously, I do NOT know how managed to get along without it. It's like going from VHS to 4K. You're gonna feel TURBOCHARGED when you start using it. I'm serious. The difference will be night and day!

You have a mask? I'm using nasal pillows. I never breath through my mouth while sleeping so losing air isn't a problem for me. If you have ANY questions, please feel free to ask. :)

My life is BETTER because of that therapy.

Let's just say my ex-wife was a lot more patient with my snoring than my current girlfriend...

Got the full mask as I mouth breathe, going Darth Vader tonight.

How do you have more energy?

Going to guess getting the right amount of air as you sleep is kinda important
I guess I never thought of it like that. I assumed I woke up from sleep so I got the right amount of oxygen lol.

How do you have more energy?

When it first hit me, I was stationed on Okinawa and I'd be nodding off in staff meetings, so I started chewing gum and popping it loudly to stay awake. I would be getting a solid 8 hours of sleep, but when I sat down in the meetings, it'd hit. I'd be getting a haircut and I'd wake up to the female barbers giggling because I would be snoring.
I thought nothing of it as me just being tired.

Fast forward to me being retired and my cousin would visit, and I'd be asleep as they were talking, and they'd nudge me awake. We'd go to church and they'd nudge me awake because I'd be out cold during the sermon.
I thought I was just getting old and tired...

I had to get surgery and it went well. In the recovery room the nurse came in and said, "I have to talk to you." I'm thinking "Ohhhh mannnn, here it comes... I've got X amount of time left..." They said, "Have you been checked for Sleep apnea? You were gasping for air while we were doing the surgery."

I took their advice and went to a sleep lab. Sure enough, I had it... BAD. I forget how many times they recorded my breathing stopping while asleep but it was a LOT. I got my machine through the VA, and it's been a total 180. No more nodding off in church, conversations, watching a movie, etc.

Before it was like moving around in a fog, but now?

I could go grizzly hunting with a switch.

Sorry for the long post, but I'll be singing the praises of cpap/bipap from the rooftops.

I made a thread about it some years back and a person in there said "I don't use it because the Canadian government can track your usage." I told them "It's so your doc can get the info and adjust the therapy when you go into see them when you have follow-up appointments."

They said "Nope, I don't wanna be tracked." I literally shook my head and told them I'd pray they wouldn't go to sleep behind the wheel someday."

Because that $hit is REAL.

I use a CPAP, big difference in quality of sleep only recently started Mid February and definitely feel more rested and definitely back on the grind hitting the Pavement. 70 Miles in March , 95 in April , 105 last Month and Already 20 in June aiming for 120. This is also while doing Rowing Work as well. Glad that I'm tightening things up as I'm about to hit the final couple of years of my service.

@Strychnine
So, you are all in for the new legislation calling for $14 trillion in reparations for black Americans, in an effort to see the federal government atone for the practice of slavery and hundreds of years of racist policies that followed?
. What about American Indians? Will they be getting any reparations for their troubles?
. What about the Japanese Americans during WWII? Any reparations there?
. What about the Chinese who built the railroads of this country? Will they be getting reparations for the way they were treated?

Most black Americans don't really care for these stupid legislations, military bases changing their names, or Confederate monuments being brought down. Columbia University and other ivy league schools are now having graduation ceremonies based on race. Classes based on race. Library sections based on race. Is that where we are heading? Seems like segregation is now making a comeback. It is the direction many blacks (African Americans) want this country to go. We also had black slave holders prior to the American Civil War. Black slaves in America came from Africa. Who in Africa do you think was capturing those slaves? That is right, other blacks. So, how are reparations going to resolve this issue? This is all a very sad chapter in American history. Confederates were Americans first and foremost.

None of the black soldiers I served with had an issue with the name Ft. Benning, or Ft. Bragg. They were proud to be associated with both military installations. It is a proud tradition in the U.S. Army (was - no more). You would not know because you are U.S. Air Force.
