Mike Israetel - sage or egomaniac??

The version Solomon reviewed clearly couldn’t have been the final one, in my opinion. Still, it’s sloppy to upload the wrong version of such an important document. Whether it was a misnamed file or simply the wrong one selected, it comes across as amateurish at best. I even triple check internal documents that I just want to share with my team before I upload it.

I'm not weighing in on the Israetel thing, but for my two cents, this is academia. The PhD thesis that I submitted to Cardiff University isn't the one on my Academia.edu page. I got my PhD, everything worked out, but the version that they published for their internal archive isn't the final revised one that I wanted them to publish (and told them in e-mails to publish, and was assured by them would be the one published). But there was so much bureaucratic shit involved with that whole process that when I realized that they fucked up I was past caring. Fast-forward five years and I edited a book for the major academic press Bloomsbury and they didn't just fuck up my bio on every internal and external site, they literally made up a book that I never wrote and attributed it to me! And when I pointed this out to my editorial contact and told her to fix it, she complained to her boss and I was told that I was being mean!!

The prestige is for the people on the outside looking in -- the people inside know that academia is a pretty big shitshow of administrative/bureaucratic incompetence and indifference.

All these recent developments make Mike look really bad. Especially since he is a self proclaimed genius who's supposedly better than everyone in everything.

Lol! There’s a third version now <36><36>

The drama still continues

He does take responsibility in being negligent in not checking the files. I don't see him attacking anyone or trying to minimize/deflect here so all in all I think he handled it ok.

Ultimately whatever final draft he submitted to the committee for his defense was accepted. I don't think anyone claimed that the committee blindly accepted his mistake riddled dissertation draft and printed him his degree certificate.

For the most time when I watch some of his content I largely do it for entertainment not educational value.

A lot of his knowledge seems to be based in bodybuilding which is somewhat limited for athletics.

This. He can be fun to watch, but he's not even in the top 10 of Youtuber's I'd watch if I wanted information on training.

As you say, he's almost exclusively focussed on Bodybuilding, and while there's nothing wrong with that, it has limited carryover to other sports. Although respect to Mike for also getting his black belt in BJJ.

Dont really rate him to be honest. And lots of people over complicate training anyway, paralysis by over analysis.

And trainings different for each individual, what works for me might be a waste of time for you

Yea... wow.. OP/TS must be feeling real smug now, considering this thread was created long before any of this stuff.... well over a year ago

He went down the Greg doucette rabbit hole so I don't watch either of them anymore.

Solomon Nelson just did another video addressing Israetel and Layne Norton.

I like how he waited a month for them to embarrass themselves after the initial video about Israetel's thesis before formally replying to all of the lies in the damage control attempt.

Lee Priest did a short response to Israetel's critique of his lifting technique.

He was very nice about it IMO.

He just pointed out that Israetel's claim that he should've of used a larger range of motion was silly because he always felt weird tension when he locked his arms out and didn't want to get injured.

The idea that Israetel, who can't even get into contest shape or put on a spray tan properly, had the authority to critique great bodybuilders from the past was laughable to me way before his thesis got exposed.

Good video.

He's still a bit slick with his "if I wanted to I could say you are a womanizer/cheater, have enhanced physique and bitch tits but I am too highbrow for such attacks".

They are both smarmy pricks. Mike does the fake "I am a nice guy down to earth exercise scientist" while this guy does the "I am a virtuous researcher and upholder of scientific method". Both of them are full of shit.

This guy and many like him live off the names of others. He's irrelevant. He made a well known health influencer squirm a bit.

just revisiting this thread and saw that on a previous post, I'm totally done now too. I can't support anyone who supports that scumbag rat. IYKYK

Dr. Idz weighing in. Looks like that was the final draft but Israetel later amended it during his defense process.

What I heard was that Mike's 'final version' was edited with fake stamps/signatures and Mike was warned about it by the university. Then Mike admitted that Solomon's version was the correct.

I blame the university for allowing him to graduate in the first place. They unleashed this terror into the world.

Sadly there are far too many paper/diploma mill universities. I have known some people like this. They have advanced degrees but lack basic skills. With LLMs this is becoming an even bigger issue. Imagine for a second how little this university did in checking his research.

There will be more and more people graduating while having done minimal if any work for their masters and PhDs. Nowadays more and more previously reputable universities are trying to survive by offering useless online degrees.

That's a shame because you can actually learn a lot from online classes if you're actually interested.

I earned a Masters from Penn State in Data Science and that was online. It was hard as hell because I didn't use any AI or other cheating methods.. but because I made it hard on myself I have been able to learn and utilize many of the concepts and tools I learned in my coursework throughout my career.

I didn't know anything about programming before I took those courses, but I learned how to use R, Python, and VBA in the 5 semesters I took. Very useful stuff.
