Mike Israetel - sage or egomaniac??

He said something recently something like strongmen are going to eventually dominate BJJ. We shall see.

That's dumb. At heavyweight or in absolute divisions maybe ....if they started BJJ from a young age and trained it alongside their strength sport. They'd still be pretty far behind on technique if half their energy is spent on the Atlas Stones or Fingal's Fingers.

If you are VASTLY stronger than a very skilled bjj practitioner regardless of weight class, avoid obvious dumb things and have reasonable cardio your skill wont win you the heavyweight division. The only chance for the skilled guy is to sit there and wait out the stronger man and then lay it on them. A human, any human cannot out grapple a gorilla.

I'll believe it when I see it and I'll be happy to be wrong. Until then, this is all noise.

BTW Have you tried plate loaded dumbbells? I find them incredibly practical.

My bad for the late reply.

Adjustable dumbbells & kettlebells are the absolute best value for home gyms for the space they take up.

yes but a strongman could easily atlas stone a bjj competitor and place him on one of those high referee chairs they have at tennis games

then what would he do??

So what you are saying is if a strong person develops sufficient skills they will win?
Avoiding obvious dumb things is developing sufficient skills to protect yourself.

It's the same as when people say they don't need JJ in MMA but then go out and spend a heap of time working on defending subs.
They are using JJ to become sufficiently skilled enough to not be submitted. They might not use it offensively, but they are getting better at JJ.

Yep. Not even Brock lesnar or pudz is defeating a gorilla who doesn’t even know what bjj is. Throw Marcella Garcia in there and see what happens.

Gordon Ryan has the minimum barrier to entry of strength above and beyond for bjj and he had to use steroids to even get there.

You mean to tell me that a professional BJJ competitor would dare take PEDs to become one of the best in the world?

Gee, I wonder what other sports out there require PEDs to gain as much strength as possible to compete at the very highest level?

I don’t care if he takes peds or not. I’m telling you he took them obviously for performance benefit and namely the benefit is strength.

Animals use grappling techniques all the time. 100% a gorilla will win.
It's because unlike us they fight each other everyday AND they are massive. The technique is there.

That looks no different to a heavyweight BJJ match with some biting.

Licis is an outlier. He is one of the more mobile strongmen. He also wrestled in high school. There is some footage of him grappling. He gooned his opponents. They were all novice but so was he.

Do you also drill Shooting Star Presses or was the gif just added because it's pretty? (That would be an acceptable reason to add it, btw.)

I haven't trained for a while so I got my moves mixed up, you're right I meant shooting star presses/7 year itch.

This is usually how they look when I try them since I'm so out of practice.

greg doucette is better than him

Optimizing workouts is rarely important. The added benefit doesn't apply yo 99% of people working out opposed to just going out and doing it.
