Microsoft is Buying Activision Blizzard $68.7B ***Update: Acquisition Finalized***

And in unrelated news, Microsoft is dropping their Game Pass family plan right after increasing the price for Game Pass. The family plan would have been really useful but obviously no way to make money on that.
It’s going to hit 20 dollars sooner than later with the way they’re gobbling up the industry. People are cheering this on but I predict that people will be very unhappy with the state of things in ten years. In order to make profit they’ll probably reduce budgets on games and increase micro transactions. Layden the former head of PlayStation thinks that Game Pass will diminish the quality of AAA titles since they won’t be able to make the sales figures they were once getting. There’s a reason why even to this day Hollywood theater releases have much better special effects than streaming movies. They can work with a bigger budget because they can earn it back in ticket sales and then later on Blu-ray or streaming. Great for indies which is what these services should have been for instead imo

With all these billions flying around the gaming community, I'm thinking gaming has surpassed Hollywood movies and music.

I'm thinking there are game makers I've never heard of worth more than Tom Cruise.

Yes, it already has a by a huge margin. That's why there are so many eyes on it and now and Microsoft is making a big push.

You might be talking about two recent Twitch streamers that went to a different platform. No, they aren't making more than Tom Cruise because it's a one time payment if I'm correct. Tom Cruise still gets tens of millions PER year. However, if we are talking about the amount of money the industry rakes in from sales then it far surpasses the box office revenue of an entire year.

I mean Sony is hurdling towards a live service focus without even launching day one IP on Playstation Plus.. Bungie will be aiding and advising in that.. it's the current trajectory of the industry as costs of AAA single player titles skyrocket and you need recurrent income to fund them.

The comparison to Hollywood theater and streaming movies isn't exactly correct as all Xbox IP isn't launching exclusively on Gamepass.. you can purchase it through the Xbox store, Steam etc etc.

Was actually kinda hoping the COD deal never got signed tbh, would have been interested to see what attempts we got to try and compete.

Completely understandable why though.

You guys talking of COD, I'm wondering if the Battlefield games are any good.

I got hooked on Black Ops 2 many years ago. That game was a FPS RPG which made it addicting. And when you go on winning streaks, it's even more addicting.

My favorite gun or the one I did the best with was the S12. Saiga 12.. Semi auto shotgun.

I never made it far in zombie mode though. I always had trash partners

Most online shooters copied the COD blueprint, so they're all kind of similar with their perk systems and whatnot.

Not really, creators don't have the leverage that actors do. Don't get me wrong, there are loaded people, just not necessarily on the way to billionaires.

Extension seems likely on the basis of Microsoft/CMA arguing that the new deal (divesture) rectifies their concerns.

Oh you sweet summer child.

COD redesigned its gunplay to directly compete against HALO in the 2005 console market. In an attempt to retain players COD moved the progression system of the standard FPS single player campaign to online multiplayer. Out of all the FPS titles Battlefield was the only other FPS multiplayer to follow COD's unlock cycle through multiplayer playtime.

Other FPS titles already locked roles by playtime and or training requirements. For instance Americas Army in 2002 required players wishing to play Sniper to complete a online marksman course.

The only part about the extension that makes me wonder if it will happen is that MS seems to be doing their best to avoid even getting to that point. Like they almost know it wont be extended.

If Bobby is the sole decider on approving the extension or not then I can see why MS is worried.

They can keep Call Of Booty. That shit has been done for since they went all in on Warzone aka Lamezone. Was hilarious when they had Snoop Dogg and Godzilla as Operators now they got Superheros for the icing on the cake of the downfall. Ya I know Billions still play but the Multiplayer is beyond broken trash now. Rejects actually pay 19.99 for these bundles lmao keeping these fucks rich.

Nicki Minaj incoming too apparently after collaboration. MWII operator factions have been a thoughtless gulasch.
