Microsoft acquires Zenimax Entertainment for $7.5 billion

So a new studio to kill?
How sad, Bethesda has published some good games.
Let's hope Doom and Fallout aren't reduced to "service" games dedicated solely to the casual audience.

Another dead studio, a big day for Microsoft, a sad day for humanity.

Do you guys think this is bigger than buying the Warner Brothers game studios? Seems so to me. That was talked about a few months back but then W.B seemed to have changed their minds.

Damn big move from Microsoft there.

Xbox now owns the IP's, so they can do whatever they want with them..

I do think they may release multi platform, but with timed exclusives for the big games.
Like I said, I could be wrong. Paying $7 billion for a studio only to miss out on sales from a 100m player base seems short sided.

Seems to me like this is a way to make money off of PlayStation owners and beef up Game Pass.

-Xbox now went from 15 to 23 studios

-Bethesda Softworks, Bethesda Game Studios, id Software, ZeniMax Online Studios, Arkane, MachineGames, Tango Gameworks, Alpha Dog, and Roundhouse Studios.

-Game Pass now has 15 million subscribers

Not sure. Arguably the same.

I prefer Bethesda way more that WB but their lineup is arguably as stronger if not stronger.

All LEGOS game, All DC comic book related games, all Harry Potter related games, all Lord of the Ring related games, Mortal Kombat series, Dying Light, Gauntlet...

How were they able to do this in total secrecy? Isn't Zenimax Entertainment a publicly traded company? Not one insider or 4Chan rumour, no one saw this coming.
newsflash, people have always and continue to keep things secret

I imagine a good chunk of those studios you listed will be gone in a few years time.thats what usually happens when a takeover like this occurs.

If franchises like Elder Scrolls and Doom are truly made to be exclusives then that’s one of the biggest scumbag moves I’ve seen in gaming and don’t want to hear a single thing about Microsoft being pro-consumer again.

Developing your own first party exclusives is one thing. Throwing your wallet at an enormous, established publisher is another.

That's what I'm thinking. Would be a ton of money left on the table if they kept FO, Doom or ES exclusive.
As the rhetoric surrounding the new consoles for the past year has shown us, exclusives sell systems. Systems sell software.

So there would be a ton of money left on the table if they accommodated PS5 owners by publishing to their platform. Why not leverage a disincentive to buy into their competitor's platform? They're being generous and white-hat enough to share with PC. This is business, and business is war.

I think cutting off PS5 users is the right move.

Maybe but with Game Pass, they need and want as many games as possible.

But they won't be exclusives, member, or did you already forget your own Sony fanboy rhetoric about Microsoft's lack of "exclusives"?

"You can just buy them on PC!"

I mean major props to Spencer picking up the pieces from the dumpster fire which was Don Matrrick..

He's went some way to making the Xbox brand viable again.

Seconded!

Matrrick came off as a dork and a pencil-pusher who was in the wrong position. Spencer comes off as a VERY business-wise gamer who knows his stuff.

Damn that’s a pretty big W for Microsoft. Tbh though it doesn’t affect me much since I’m not a huge Bethesda games fan and if I do get their games I tend to get for the PC. For strictly console gamers though that seems like massive news

Yup, way to miss my point entirely you lame ass shill. Good job exposing yourself as anything but neutral in these things.
