Microsoft acquires Zenimax Entertainment for $7.5 billion

If franchises like Elder Scrolls and Doom are truly made to be exclusives then that’s one of the biggest scumbag moves I’ve seen in gaming and don’t want to hear a single thing about Microsoft being pro-consumer again.

Developing your own first party exclusives is one thing. Throwing your wallet at an enormous, established publisher is another.
lol.. Sony will be money hatting numerous triple A titles this upcoming gen.. Final Fantasy 16 is just the start.

Business is business, I guess.. and Microsoft needed to counteract that with a big buy.

Seems to be backing up what I said. Games will stay multiplat, Microsoft makes money off of everyone, Game Pass gets a nice boost.

Timed exclusives are pretty lame imo but everyone will get a chance to play those games.

Acting like keeping Doom, Elder Scrolls, Fallout, etc. exclusive is the same or a remotely good thing is pretty ridiculous. It’s a pretty terrible day for the industry if that’s the case.

Bethesda was already slipping, going to be interesting seeing Bethesda turn into another Rare, churning out mediocre games.

Making Doom, Elder Scrolls and Fallout exclusive, and putting them on a incredibly cheap subscription service (Gamepass), which is available on both PC and Xbox..

Not exactly terrible imo.. especially as other publishers are jacking up the price of next gen games.

You gotta love Sony fanboys. Microsoft isn't even talking about making the IP of their own property full exclusives, sharing with the PC, and yet they insist Microsoft is scum implementing policies that aren't consumer friendly because of that; on the cusp of the most critical moment in a console war.

Give me a break. Call me when Sony announces they will be publishing every SIE developed game on the Xbox platform.

They gave you time to cancel those pre-orders. Ball is in your court.

You want your cake, and to eat it, too? Buy a PC.

A new God Of War game of the year status shits on anything Microsoft can put out on a gaming console.

Yes it is. It’s a giant corporation using their infinite resources to screw over a massive population of gamers. How is that good, exactly?

As the rhetoric surrounding the new consoles for the past year has shown us, exclusives sell systems. Systems sell software.

So there would be a ton of money left on the table if they accommodated PS5 owners by publishing to their platform. Why not leverage a disincentive to buy into their competitor's platform? They're being generous and white-hat enough to share with PC. This is business, and business is war.

I think cutting off PS5 users is the right move.
I don't think in the long term it is. These aren't shitty Indie games we're talking about here or titles that have always been synonymous with Xbox like Halo. Considering Bugthesda takes forever to release major titles anyway, these initial competitions between the new Xbox and PS will have long died down. If both consoles drop this winter.... when's the next big Bethesda title going to be released? Probably two years from now.... at least. I don't think MS owning the studio changing that either. They already said that the current Bethesda crew is remaining in place.

Doesn’t change any of my plans with next gen. I have a couple of great titles at launch for PS5, I’ll continue to get those in house developed IP’s, and my ecosystem is pretty well established with Sony.

If these are exclusive to Microsoft then I’ll pick up an XBSX in a few years when the next Elder Scrolls game is released.

Mostly AA games......every first party MS exclusive.....you mean HALO, Gears of War, Forza and it’s umpteen editions.

{<diva}

And like I said in an earlier post, I don’t know how viable it’ll remain for 3rd party developers to constantly forgo the 60-70 bucks of direct sales in favour of Xbox’s subscriptions.
Netflix of gaming.....u have to remember that Avengers, Black Panther and other blockbusters don’t show up till a few years in. There’s a reason why.
GamePass will or has already started the death spiral of not generating enough income for the developer's AAA games and instead be populated with low spec / old games or they will have to jack up their subscription price.

Aged like fine wine..

I love every game from them. Good move MS. One day before the preorders start.
