Not surprising.

When Mickey Gall for the CM Punk fight, it immediately made him more widely known than 75% of the roster.

It makes sense to give him another shot.
There are casuals who will see the card, and Mickey Gall will have more name recognition than half of the main card fighters.

Punk was just never good enough for his fight to be anything other than a gimmick and trying to find someone who could make it competitive while keeping it legitimate was a mistake. They would have been better served finding another pro wrestler with similar (ie nonexistent) combat sports credentials and paying them both heaps of money to fight on a card. Or they could have taken the opportunity to make an inter gender match. Punk vs Cyborg/Nunes would have done stupid money and I’m pretty sure either one of them would have beaten the brakes off Punk.

Instead they wound up with a good regional circuit guy who struggled to hang around the bottom of the pack becoming somewhat well known and couldn’t really capitalize on the recognition he got from beating Punk in a real way due to those limitations.

He is a can and a douchebag, I remember he was calling out a retired Dan Hardy and a washed Diego Sánchez that ended up dominating him.

Say what you want about Punk being shite as a fighter but he's gonna end up being the most memorable win of Gall's career.

He signed with WWE in 2005 and won the WWE Championship twice, the World Heavyweight Championship three times, and the WWE Intercontinental Championship, the ECW World Heavyweight Championship, and the World Tag Team Championship once each. He is the only back-to-back Money in the Bank ladder match winner, won Superstar of the Year at the 2011 Slammy Awards, and was voted PWI Wrestler of the Year in 2011 and 2012.
Look at those accolades!!!! Everybody worried about champ-champ status. Look how many titles he won!

Mickey Gall stepped into the cage with the deck stacked against him for the first time... and wiped the floor with CM Punk..

Mickey Gall is more active than Jon Jones. Give him the belt.
