MJ is more fondly remembered, though he didn’t singularly write his hits.

Prince was a musical force of nature.
Capable of all facets of the game.

For me its Prince.

MJ was quite capable of composing the major parts of his songs, Quincy and co merely polished diamonds that MJ brought in. Quincy was a brilliant collaborator who had extensive networks and all the social bullshitting that it took to get a Van Halen in the studio to put down a solo.

Don’t get me wrong MJ was an animal and rightfully the King of Pop.

Prince played all the instruments, wrote all parts himself and produced his early albums.
MJ never could do that.
In addition, Prince’s musical output dwarfs Jackson’s.

Lol no way. Prince had far more range. MJ was MJ.
he did have way more range but I'd have to give MJ more for his singing control. He could do falsetto also but rarely did and he also mastered a Little Richard type of gritty singing during the bad era, which possibly (depending on if you believe te rumors) led to him shooting his voice out. He wouldn't be the first to do that trying to sing that way. It's down to personal preference though really, not everyone liked Prince's voice, or, maybe they liked his normal range and hated his falsetto. MJ the same, his voice really thinned out by the time of Thriller, likely because he'd started singing higher and he lost a lot of weight. MJ as a child was an amazing singer, a true prodigy, it's crazy but I prefer that singing over most of his adult singing.

I understand preferring MJ and liking his voice more. But better? No. If we were to equate this to acting, MJ is Al Pacino and Prince is Daniel Day-Lewis.

It's like asking who's music you like best, people are gonna be split and there will be people who don't like anything they've heard from a particular artist. Part of that is just closedmindedness but they usually mean they just don't like what they've heard and gave up on the rest. Happens with Springsteen, Prince, Elvis or MJ.

Anyone's voice can be critiqued and with Prince, as mentioned, a lot of people hate falsetto period, and then, in the regular range, chest voice, his vocals were never all that powerful, almost half talk and half singing. With MJ, as mentioned, his adult voice was pretty thin and just not very full, also, a lot of people would probably be irritated by his vibrato (just like some people hated Elvis's fast vibrato) and all the extra Michaelisms which he always used.

Anyway, in Prince's normal register, his voice wasn't that powerful nor did he have spectacular control there. At falsetto he could do pretty much anything but some folks hate falsetto. It's true that he had great range, amongst the biggest ranges in pop music but there is more to consider when you ask "who do you like". I like both, I'd have to say that MJ at his peak, at least in his normal range, was a better singer who couldn't (or didn't) match the range and versatility of Prince. MJ also intentionally sang high because he knew instinctively that america did not like deep singing black guys at the time, so, he made his voice less threatening and also limited how he sang most of the time. Both men had to curb their masculinity image wise and voice wise to get over. Rick James they were not.

My local sports radio is based out of Minneapolis, and when he passed away, they had people call in to tell their stories about Prince.
There were so many calls from people talking about how great of a guy he was to meet. He'd show up to a little dive bar at 1am, and ask to play. He'd take the time to talk to everyone.
Or there were stories of music teachers asking him to donate a saxophone or trumpet, but Prince would send them tons more than what they asked for.

My favorite story was him kicking a bunch of women out of a limo. After every gig, Prince got food for everyone in his crew from a local restaurant. Sometimes he'd go with to pick up the food, talk to the workers, and he'd give every worker in the restaurant a $50 tip. Well, there was one time when there wasn't enough room in the limo for the food, and the women. Prince kicked the women out.
I've read about Prince showing up unannounced on gigs. That would be the equivalent of Dave Chappelle showing up to your local PTA meeting and trying new material.

Prince routinely played after hours gigs after his concerts, it's one of the things that make me scoff at suggestions that he needed drugs for stage fright. He loved playing live. Whatever stagefright he had wasn't anything needing drugs. (his soundman still says the aftershows were better than the main shows).

I guess he enjoys playing music he actually loves instead of what the ticket buyers want him to play.
Yup, I believe, more often than not, he would find some small club and perform for free there after his concerts. All or most of it has been recorded. MJ, as much as I love him, lip synched for pretty much anything after the 80's. Prince hated lipsynching and would only do it when it was insisted on as in a televised performance, rarely did he do that.

My GF saw him play at Cherry Bar in Melbourne I think.

Love the analogy. : - )

Prince doesn't have a single video of him moonwalking; MJ has several.

MJ >

A cinch ! Prince of course !! MJ was nothing but a child molester, no matter what the courts say....they make BIG mistakes ESP when the judges are corrupted !

As great as Prince is talented he's still no match for Michael in terms of performance n just puttingbon a show.

For sheer musical talent it's Prince but for performance tslent its MJ
