Influenced by another thread in Mayberry.

Met Danny Williams after hed been beaten by Klitschko, dude seemed a bit down but nontheless still made an effort.

Lee Murray: A few months after he had been stabbed multiple times he returned to London Shootfighters for a bit of training, most guys that didnt know him were too intimidated, i gathered the courage to go say hello, told him i had been stabbed myself (true story) and told him hed be fine, he shook my hand and was a real gentleman.

David Haye: A friend of mine saw him at a restaurant and he came across as a real prick towards waiters.

Nigel Benn: This was when I was in High School. We were on lunch break and as I walked by a restaurant in the town centre i saw him and his family having dinner, being the cheeky individual I was i ran up to the window knocked on it, he looked up, I then pointed at him and started shadow boxing to which he just shook his head and facepalmed.

Chris Eubank: used to live in an area called Edgware road if im not mistaken, I was walking down this particular road with a friend and saw Eubank across the road, walking stick, bowler hat, monocle and all, the guy waved at us.

Naseem Hamed: At Hyde park, London. I think this was after his fight with Augie Sanchez, his right hand was wrapped up im guessing from still being sore. He was yelling out some lyrics from a song and no one including his entourage was saying anything....myself being within hearing range yelled back the rest of the lyrics to which he looked over in my direction, smiled and nodded his head.

I have met Bas Rutten twice, once in a Japanese tv show and the other time at shopping center.
I met kimo where I used to work at and he seemed like a dick lol. I also met Mike Tyson at a gas station haha, he stop so he could get an energy drink.
 
I met Peter Manfredo at the boxing hof and a guy named Shawn George who beat Chris Byrd when he dropped down to lhw. Both were nice dudes and it was funny b/c I brought up to Manfredo how he beat the shit out of Joey Spina who he hated and he was just like "ahh, yeah".

Also not a fighter but I yelled "what up Max" at Kellerman when he was walking across the ring apron after the Dulorme/Abregu fight when almost everyone was gone. He just looked over and nodded like a gangster.


Basically shitty "cool story bro" stories but that's all I got. Plan on going back to the hof this year to try to meet Hitman and the rest of the guys getting inducted this year.


edit: moa lol at the Nigel Benn story and what happened with you getting shanked? Can I get the goods behind that story?

Met Tito Ortiz outside a bar once. He was drunk and started talking shit so I had to knock him out.
 
Hey Blunt, nice stories. I'll be at the HOF in June as well. Got all our tickets for the events and dinners and shit. Spent a pretty penny but it'll be worth it. I'm hoping I get to meet Hagler. They said he's been there 7 of the last 9 years so I just might.

I actually got to meet Manfredo Jr. outside Foxwoods Casino last year when I went to see Sergio Martinez fight Dzinzurik (sp?) Literally bumped into him carrying our shit inside the front entrance. Super nice guy. Posed for pics no problem. We also saw Lampley at dinner (he's a skinny fuck believe it or not), saw Ledderman being interviewed, Michael Buffer walked right by us, and saw Lou Dibella yelling at somebody on the phone in High Rollers. We didnt talk to any of them though. Did get to chat with Arthur Mercante Jr. (Nice guy)

And John Ruiz is a super cool guy. His gym is not that far away from me at all.
 
Never met one.
At the forum parking lot, saw Chicanito Hernandez, he waved at us(brother, cousin, dad) after one of his fights.
 
I also see two great prospects out of San Antonio, Kendo and Jairo Castaneda, almost every week. Kendo just made his pro debut in October and Jairo in Dec. Keep a look out for them
 
I've met Eubank a few times, first was in Manchester City centre, when he was out jogging with his trainer, during fight week. No one seemed to bat an eyelid, but once he stopped to look in a shop window, I walked over and said 'Alright Chris' without even looking in my direction, he just said 'yeah' and carried on his conversation. Being young at the time, I was chuffed to fuck with this.
Fast forward years later, and I find myself in a burger shop in Brighton, called Grubbs or something similar, and Eubank parks a big fucking rig outside, and then walks in saying, and I shit you not, words to the effect of 'Eubank is here'. He then follows this up by giving out pre-signed photos of himself to everyone in the takeaway. Fucking wacko.
My mate also met him in the Trump plaza and had a good chat with him, and reckoned he was sound as fuck.
Forgot to add, I saw him a few more times in Brighton, in fact pretty much every time I go there, he seems to be drinking coffee outside some coffee shop as openly as he can. Guess he just loves the fame game.
 
I have met hundreds including more than a dozen heavyweight champions....met many champions and hall of famer boxers, broadcasters, trainers. It would take a book to describe.

Fuck, I should also add that I was an extra in a low budget UK horror film, one of the main parts in it was played by Joe Egan, ex-Tyson sparring partner. He was a cool bloke.

I've been in the same room with many fighters, such as Brock Leasner, Carlos Quintana, Miguel Cotto ect.

But I've really only had a conversation with Victor Ortiz. I met him though his cousin who I know very well, I could remember how he was very calm, cool, softspoken. I asked him a lot, as I was starstruck. me being only 15. I asked him about the Mayweather fight, I asked him about training, about the gloves and gear he uses. He was very cool with everything. He was very much interested in my boxing career, at the time my record was 86-5. we talked a lot about what my plans were. All and all, he's a very humble dude.

Yeah Shane's a cool cat, nicer than I would've imagined. I just happened to be meeting with a guy at this airport and in comes Shane, his girlfriend, his son and son's friend from outside in the private jet that had just arrived. Just so happens, the dude I was meeting, Shane knew and he was like, "hey man, what's going on?". My guy was like, "oh wow didn't know you were coming in HERE, so how was Vegas?"

They were just getting back from the Floyd-Canelo fight, I was introduced and next thing you know we were all chatting away about random shit from the fight to a barbecue he was having at his place the following week. While his girl and the boys were getting loaded up into a black escalade. He seriously took time to stop and have a conversation instead of just saying, "yo I'm tired man Ill have to text you later." Cause he LOOKED tired. But it was a good 5-10 minutes of chatting, they exchanged updated contact info and that was that.

Chris is a loveable interesting guy, maybe he's a little off or just crazy like a fox, i dunno. His wife stated his increasingly bizarre behavior as a reason for divorce. I've always enjoyed watching him, not all fighters are interesting outside of the ring. Solid fighter too, great chin and before the watson tragedy, a good puncher.
 
I've met a couple, however the best I've got though is big Tim, I've partied with that dude like more then a few times.

I'm not genuinely interested in the things you say, no.

But usually when somebody makes a bombastic claim like, "It would take an entire book for me to describe my interactions with boxing hall of famers and champions," it requires some sort of explanation.

Plus it's kinda the point of the thread.

your logic makes sense but my interpretation is that it's too much to put in a comment. comment sections are usually pretty concise, short. I know that sometimes people will ask me about something and a reply would just be too time consuming and not worth the energy.

Thanks man. Yeah for living so close I don't nearly go there enough, I've only been a few times. It's awesome that you're going to the dinners and all that good stuff. Should be a fun time and there's a bunch of stuff going on in Canastota the whole weekend with a golf tourney, the parade with all the fighters and inductees, and I even think there's some kind of long distance charity run or something that Mickey Ward ran in the other year.


Hagler is at the dinner almost every year and I hear he's a really cool dude and the fact you're both Massachusetts guys should be make it even cooler. Lol, Lou yelling at someone does not surprise me. Yeah Manfredo seems like a really nice guy, sounds like Ruiz is too.

Hope you have fun man and tell me about all the people you meet when June comes. Should be a good time.
 
I saw a seahawk last night when i went to play at a bar, i was struck by how tiny he looked, didn't get his name, don't follow football and don't get starstruck by athletes but I did notice how friendly he was to the fans and know it's not always the case with pro footballers. I've seen some real idiots, not the players, i've seen adults act real fucking stupid around the players, but well, the players can be stupid too, cutting in lines and so on.
 
as for fighters i've met, no top boxers, met Boone Kirkman, who fought Norton, Forman (2) and others. He was super nice and still in good condition, had less fat on him than I did and i was young. He taught me the proper way to throw the left hook, which I still do to this day. Danny Mayes, a street artist/former boxer, and being around fighters my whole life I've been around lots of club fighters, and then in mma, plenty of those guys, I was never one to place anyone on a pedestal so it meant nothing to me to see a randy couture, maurice smith etc.., nothing at all. But i'll say this, most of the good ones are humble and easygoing, most of them really are nice guys who avoid confrontation.

Nobody asked him, he voluntarily joined the thread to not answer the thread. Plus, even if he didn't want to explain in full, something like:

"I work at a boxing gym, so I've met many champions."
"I sell t-shirts outside MGM, so I've met lots of boxers."
"I look up celebrities addresses online and accidentally bump into them at their mailboxes."

It's not hard.
 
I heard that Vic was apparently a bully in hs and used to fuck with handicapped kids or something. All alleged though nothing to back it up except second hand stories. Could've been a really nice dude I have no idea.
 
well, all i can say from my perspective, i've been around enough guys that it doesn't mean that much to me, i don't know most of them very well and not that impressed by most of them, not the boxers, I love boxers, but the mma'rs/martial artists/fighters/teachers/whatever. So to list a full name of guys who I happened to see at the gym, or even gotten some bad vibes from wouldn't mean much to me or you would it? They are just people at the end of the day and I never had a problem thinking pretty highly of myself so meeting them wasn't that big of a deal. Now, if they were my heroes or men i've studied and looked up to, it would definitely be different, Ali, Hagler, Camacho, guys who had a huge effect on me as a man I would show requisite respect to and might even act like a little kid, but most fighters, mma and boxing are not in that category for me. Just people with problems, limitations, struggles, just like you and me.
edit, that's all to say, if you're around things alot they don't mean quite the same thing.
