Met any boxers or fighters? Tell us your experiences.

Didn't we do this thread a while back and MCPB had a couple of good ones?

Moz, I know you are an honest guy, but I probably wouldn't buy what actjac is selling you right now. He has never given the impression that he knows anything about boxing at all in the past.

"Camacho is small"
"King is smart"

Let me guess, Pac was nice? Mayorga smoked?

Sooy dood but Moz knows that I know what I am talking about because.I have talked to him about people from his home territory. . .George Chemeres, Bob Jarvis, Boone Kirkman and Joe Toro.. . .I don't have to prove anything to you.

I've met a few. Hasim Rahman, Chop Chop Corley, Seth Mitchell, Jimmy Lange, Paul Williams. The coolest nicest dude must be William Joppy. That guy is hilarious and he always has great stories. He runs a charity now called breakfast with boxers and he is always quoting shakespeare..pages at a time.

It's been fun

really? the Joppy that fought duran and trinidad? I thought he was a knucklehead.

Im aquantances with Owen Beck whos actually more of a martial artist than pro boxer...weve sat and discussed boxing before,i actually think I gave him advice before he fought Valuev.....I had a FEW in me so who knows what I said at the end?

I met Lennox Lewis in the early 90's.He took pics with everyone.VERY fast hands from what I remember and I was pretty fast myself.I was a teenager,he stopped in the gym facility not a boxing one.nice guy took pics wI met Lennox Lewis in the early 90's..he trained out by me in the poconos.

I met Yuri Vaulin former Lavatian cruiser/HW champ? In the late 90's..trained /sparred a little for 2/3 months. Extermely pleasant guy.

Met Jameel McCline thru friend, his manager owned my building in N.Y,we talked a few times,i met him before the Klitchko fight wished him luck and KNEW he would need it and then some.

His same manger was at the time Shannon Briggs..who I met once...shook his hands and trolled him a bit in saying he may lose to that other Russian guy???It was 2008 I believe? I believe...anyway he did lose...and like a fool I put money on him. I cant say I liked Briggs, seemed kind of arrogant which is prob...why I said that to him.

I saw James Toney back in the day in the Pocono mall walking around,i didn't meet him,i was a kid but recognized him from his Jones loss.

Im aquantances with Owen Beck...hes actually m
That's it I think?

he always reminded me of that criminal in Ghost and Carlitos Way, you know the guy "ooohh Carlito, so wat you need him for!?" looks and sounds just like the dude.

Is MC PaulBarmans Oliver McCall story in here yet?

Yea I forgot about that,i met him in around 1997/98...He also fought Tommy Morrison and was actually winning that fight I believe before he caught a body shot from hell.

He fought some pure bjj guy.... the fight was terrible. the bjj guy just had him in a grapevine the entire fight (yuck)....

Hey, the grapevine is a legitimate mma hold.

McCall gave him a wedgie. Thats the gist of it as I recall.

shit... that looks like a good fight... good memory, Termite.

that's right and most of those people are small time, so you know a person would have to have some pretty extensive networks to know who they were. Actually, I wondered if you were Bob Jarvis myself. My initial trainer was a guy by the name of Joe West who only had a couple names that I'm aware of that he trained those were Fraser Scott and Pinklon Thomas. Guys like Joe West (and Jarvis, and even Chemeres who was somewhat of a name) you could easily have never heard of even being a longtime fan of the sport.

I've met and chatted with a lot of MMA guys (as well as boxers). They were all pretty cool, too. Couple egos, but mostly genuine guys.

You should have asked Tyson what his fucking problem was.

true story, after the lewis fight, I was in a funk over tyson's career, in the gym and bemoaning the fact that "it's the end of an era" and Josh Barnett said "good!" then told me that he'd seen mike in vegas and they exchanged menacing looks, this was when Josh was UFC heavyweight champ, Josh has always been a likeable guy from my viewpoint, i know lots of people call him fat, a cheat etc.., but he was always very respectful to me, I definitely wouldn't categorize him in with most of the other guys I've come across.

I was told my article on Wlad inspired Tyson Fury's little batman gimmick at that press conference.

Glen Johnson is a nice guy. I shook Cotto's hand but didn't bother him beyond that and I met Chuvalo when I was very young, got his autograph and everything despite not really knowing who he was. Also Leon Spinks came by a local flea market, he looked pretty out of it.

Fraser Scott and Pinklon Thomas were big time in your neighborhood. . . Scott was a ranked contender who fought Nino Benvenuti for the middleweight title. . .and of course Thomas was a heavyweight champ.. . .Joe West introduced a businessman to the world of boxing named Roland Jankelson who became Thomas' manager. . . Jankelson later co-managed Joe Hipp a title fight.. . Chemeres had teamed with the legendary Jack Hurley to promote Gold Medalist Pete Rademacher to a heavyweight championship fight against Floyd Patterson in Pete's first pro fight at
an outdoor ball park in Seattle.. . . George who was known as the " Professor" also guided the career of Greg Haugen.. . .Toro had the Eagles Gym in downtown Seattle while Jarvis had a two story gym on Rainier Avenue.. . .with two missing legs and a missing arm (due to a construction accident) had to climb those stairs.

Met Dyah Davis when I was in Florida for a bit at ATT. Cool Guy.

yeah, true boxing characters, each and every one of them. I never got to see the Eagle gym, it was a bit before my time and Joe West retired leaving me with no gym and I wasn't going to catch 3 buses every day just to train. Sad for me but seattle never did have many options for boxers. Say, do you happen to to know John David Jackson's history? Were close to the same age yet I never came across him or heard about him and in a small boxing community like seattle, i always thought that was odd. Today, there are a few boxing clubs but I haven't gotten around to seeing any of their events, Bumblebee has a gym but I don't think he's had any one of note come out of their. Other than that, nothing but amateurs and kids hold events here. Sometimes the casinos have boxing, i keep meaning to go see some.

I met Bas Rutten randomly in an elevator at a hotel. I said hello and all that, nice guy but he told me he'd just flown in from Abu Dhabi via somewhere else and he hadn't slept in 2 days, so I didn't pester him too much. He's not that tall but very stocky and looks a bit scary to be honest ha ha.

I saw him last night....after my rendevous with Oliver McCall...if you know what I mean...wink wink

I thought you lived west coast? Little early to be on the beers?... wink wink.

How was oliver?

Dana white he was cool , chuck Liddell before he was famous , Matt Hume , Marco Ruas and group he was very cool, Ken shamrock was a dick , rampage , Tito and tiki , wanderlie silva he was chill and super nice , cyborg she as wierd ,

Arianny although not a fighter I was surprised how average she looked in real life

Matt hughes and mark both had attitude backstage while everyone was cool,

Mark Coleman right before he got in a verbal argument with security .

John lober he is a super giving guy

I can go on but most I meet in non event setting and just mutual friends

Met Hector Camacho a few times at my uncles gym and he was always great to me really nice guy who had a real aura about him. Always cool when fan's came up to him, at least in my experience.

Genaro Hernandez - This was back when the Brooklyn Boxing Gym was still open in East Los Angeles. My dad would work out of there and one day when I was working out Gernaro showed up to shadow box and do some other work in the gym. He was a really super cool guy. He was all business for the most part but he would give pointers when he would break.

Alexis Arguello - My uncle was training him for a come back years ago (Which never happend) and during a BBQ that my uncle threw I got a chance to meet Alexis. Another cool dude who I was in awe of.

Mikkel Kessler - Very cool guy, very respectful, and a crazy hard worker.

My wife and I met our favorite boxer Bert Cooper in the 90s and he could not have been nicer. He seemed very happy that we were fans and was very positive, really nice guy.
