Media Merab Dvalishvili talks Umar, targets return in March: "I need 6 months" off

He can’t fight in 4 months because he “just won the title” but wants to fight the winner of Umar/Song or Figgy/Yan in March, when both those fights are in December….4 months prior.

Rules for thee, not for me - dude thinks he deserves special treatment for being champ without realizing manipulating the schedule comes down to being a star, not a champ - it’s just a shiny toy the UFC gives you for marketing purposes, it actually holds no real power any longer.

Nobody is fighting him in March, most likely he sits until Summer while he blames them for not fighting on his timeline.

If it walks like one and it talks like one….

One of the clearest ducks I've ever seen.

He's been trying to shit on Umar even before the Cory fight.

The opposite of Alex Pereira, Merab Dvalishvili can't finish anyone, and doesn't want to fight except 1-2 times a year.

Merab should write a book on how to make yourself a crowd non-pleaser.

Duck has seriously become one of the most overused words in this place.

Remember when Belal was a duck because he was calling out Usman, and talking down Shavkat. And yet...

Actually, O’malley took the silly Chito rematch first.
Fair enough, but it was his last loss who was ranked high enough to make sense. Not sure Merab has the same scenario to latch onto. Saenz or Simon are no where near deserving. Atleast after Chito, Sean immediately went for Merab.

In this day and age, if champions fight twice every year I would consider them active. To expect Merab to fight with less than 6 months between title fights is just downright unrealistic, and anyone that believes he should be forced to is simply delusional and out of touch with reality.

You’re totally correct, a tendon injury in the hand means you can’t fish. I mean fishing includes slamming your hand full force into a foreign object right? Moron.
Don’t know how you fish, you Moron, but cast and reel, and lifting the net bag can be quite fatiguing and heavy on your arms and wrists even with smaller catch. Carpal tunnel syndrome is common among recreational fishermen.

Merab and Pereira both want to fight next in March. March 1st is the beginning of Ramadan. Hmmm…..
March sounds good, they both just fought.
After march it is good to take a break and wait until the neckbeards get matched again and then claim that you are good to go and want to fight again.

UFC needs some ideas to make their champs fight.
- Champ status 3 - 10 times your income.
- You earn more as a champ without fighting, than as #1 contender

That's why everybody sits out, heals up, ducks, treats injuries.

Alex is fighting so often because he is at the end of his career at LHW, past prime at MW and his career is declining. Probably retires in 2-3 years.

Probably a Bonus for fighting more often

There was really no one else for Suga to fight but Merab, everyone behind him was booked or coming off a loss and Merab had his 10-fight win streak plus beating Cejudo who had just lost the close decision to Aljo prior.

We had to wait 8 months after the Aljo fight (second round KO where he took no damage, though I know he said he had a rib injury) for the Vera rematch, then another 7 months for the Merab fight (didn't take much damage in the Vera fight except for the body shot at the very end of the fight). Saying he "immediately went for Merab" is definitely some hyperbole, he didn't duck him but he didn't rush to fight him ASAP either.

Woodley defended the belt 3 times in a year, Izzy defended the belt 3 times in a year, Poatan defended the belt 3 times in a year - a lot of these other champs are doing less then twice a year asking for 7-9+ months in between fights and are usually not getting surgery or anything that would justify such long layoffs.

I mean if we want to be honest about Suga he never deserved the title fight in the first place - he got gifted a decision against Yan to leap-frog him like 10 places up the rankings. Then they pressured Aljo to fight on short-notice with an injury in Boston of all places (Suga got a 10-month break from the Yan fight, Aljo got a 4 month break from Cejudo which was a 5 round fight), then he gets to fight a non-top 5 ranked Chito who was coming off a close decision win against Pedro Munhoz of all people (the guy who got a NC with Suga after winning the first round because of Suga eye-pokes).

It all really just leaves a bad taste in your mouth in hindsight - really shows you how the UFC loves to put their thumbs on the scale to manipulate the fight scenarios to the best of their abilities to heavily favor certain outcomes.

they do get a bonus for fighting more often—they get paid for another fight. the more fights you take, the more you make. can’t see the ufc offering a bonus to incentivize what they’re already paid to do.
