Neither are ducking IMO, but it's ridiculous to even compare these situations. If you wanted to argue ducking, you have a much better case with the current situation than one from 2020.

Situation 1: A debutant who hadnt even fought one fight in the UFC gets called out via Twitter by a rising contender. We have no idea what the UFC planned for them or even if there were any talks for a fight.

Situation 2: literally the Top 2 guys in the division who are both available and healthy to fight. The #2 contender calling out the Champ. Literally the most obvious matchmaking that could happen, unless the UFC has plans for Merab like they do for Poatan who is their current megastar. Both guys have nowhere to go in terms of working towards the belt unless you want Umar to fight backwards.

I would buy the ducking if Umar was #4 and Merab #3 and he called him out for a #1 contender fight. But the kid hadnt even fought in the UFC yet lol

Jack Shore , a fight he took. It fell through, yes. Unless we get information from an unbiased source (not Ali or Shore's team) I won't lay blame on any of them.

And then Corey, a fight he took two times. First fight when Nurmagomedov pulled out due to injury and second fight he won.

The difference is Merab didn't want to fight for the title bc of Aljo. And Umar is on the second win streak and just beat Sandhagen, who beat Chito, Figgy's best win. There's only 1 contender who deserves it and that's clearly Umar.
