News Merab already ducking Umar

Merab is the BW equivilant to Belal in that the UFC don't want him as champion and would prefer they get beat asap, Umar is the man for the job to take his belt lol no point matching him up with somebody else. Fighting Figgy is a waste of time for Umar, you know he'd be a -500 or heavier betting favorite.
I can't argue with that. Good points. I still say Belal is more boring but that's irrelevant

It's only questionable for Merab since he knows there is a chance he won't be hanging on to the belt to long fighting Umar. Why would he turn down an easy to win fight ?
It's only a projection of your mind that questioning something (that it sounds like he said he will do anyway) means he won't do it, and that his questioning is only based on risk of success.

If it wasn't already a stupid enough suggestion that the guy who beat Aldo, Yan, and Cejudo before challenging for the belt is upset about being challenged by a guy whose only real win is Sandhagen only because he might lose, it's DOUBLY stupid to think that any fights should be seen as "easy wins" by fighters when all fights carry risk, which is even MORE evidence as to why champs should be getting the correct challengers, because now you're talking about "low risks" that someone shouldn't have to take when a high risk will be waiting on the table either way. I also don't know if Merab ever even said that Umar would be an easy fight either (and probably figure Fig would be easier), so if he didn't then we're in triple stupid territory

Yeah, the UFC do want someone to unseat Merab now, but there was plenty of point in Umar fighting anyone of merit  before Sandhagen though.

And being a favorite is nice, but the fight would still need to be won after getting those odds, and winning fights is something Umar should have had more of at that level, favorite or not.

If they can make Umar vs Figgy happen before the end of the year as a title eliminator, then that makes the most sense. If not, Figgy should be next. Umar should get one more ranked win, then fight the winner of Merab/Figgy.
naw, both guys deserve title matches, keep them lined up, and have them fight cans if needed.

Umar has the best scalp in his resume but Fig is a former champ and has the next 3 best wins. On merit it should be Fig.

You dorks and your stupid narratives. “Oh he stuttered he’s scared of him”.

Your boy has been ducking the smoke since he got into the UFC lol.

lol If I'm merab and I want to fight figgy because he deserves it more and has actually earned it, I'd just say I want to fight in March and April when Umar can't.

that way it's ramadan and they'll have no choice but to give the fight to the person who actually deserves it. And it's not like that's too far away. Demanding he defend before that isn't really fair, considering all things, March/april is actually very realistic timeline to return after fighting a five round fight in September.

You don't seem to realize Merab has been in line for the title for a while now and he would have been stupid making a potential career killing mistake by fighting a dangerous unranked opponent in the meantime.

More accurate thread title: Merab trying to cherry pick fight against rookie UFC signee.

Can anyone imagine the uproar if Umar called out a brand new UFC signee? LOL.

And before any morons bring up Bekzat, Umar didn't call him out. Bekzat was the only fight available.

I don't think the Dagestani moron fanboys have a memory that goes back more than 1 month, so you might be in tough with this one.
Still better than Dagi haters like you who have memories of a goldfish.

I think Merab is too honest for his own good and that’s why he answered the way he did. He should have expected this question to come up and if not at least be witty enough to not let the narrative take hold. Instead we got little Cheeto finger dorks running around trying to make bullshit up.

Umar went from killer who has been undefeated and doesn’t need a build up of fights like Merab did to now “he was a rookie”.

Lmao pathetic… sad little creatures you lot are

and yet Merab is the one who turned down the fight when UFC actually offered both to fight each other.

I don't see the big deal with him wanting to fight Figgy next. Former champ with a better case for a TS and arguably an easier fight. Is it not the job of a prize fighter to make the most money for the most favorable/ easiest fights? These guys all want to prove they're the best, but career management is a thing. Let him get a title defense before taking on the young, relatively new, up-and-comer.
