If you think the living conditions of people in sitcoms is meant to represent the average person, you've got a LOT to learn.

I can think of a couple of exceptions, like the family in Malcolm in the Middle (who were pretty obviously poor and lived that way), or the Banks in The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air (who were pretty obviously rich and lived that way). But for most sitcoms, their living space far exceeds what you'd expect them to be able to afford in real life.
