Keep in mind that when you're seeing statistics like this, they're using the definition of "mass shooting" that means 3 or more killings in a single incident. Most of that is gang related.

However, when you see statistic like "most mass shootings are committed by white males," suddenly the definition becomes "carried out at public or populated areas" and "the motivation of the shooting must not correlate with gang violence."

The term Mass casualty event seems to be making the rounds more often. The CDC declared gun violence a public health epidemic and secured funding in the COVID bill passed under Joe Biden. Anti gun groups were given a seat at the table to craft the policy behind this. Mortality isn’t a requirement for a MCE. But the term elicits the same fear response as mass shooting with a lower criteria for that response.
