Meltzer: #183 - Over 500k, but less than #182

You're only spewing things to try and undermine a fighter and their accomplishments. I'm trying to give reasons as to why people respect him and like him. You tell me what's more pathetic.

No, I am giving FACTS
Diaz only won on 11% of rounds in his last 3 fights
Diaz was favored to beat Condit

You said he did better than expected. My FACTS prove otherwise

Outside of when he fights guys who are hugely marketable like GSP and Anderson, who drive most of the buyrate themselves, Nick Diaz hasn't really been a draw. His fight with Penn received less buys than some of Penn's other headliners, like with Diego Sanchez for example. He's never actually driven it on his own, so I don't think he's worth giving much, if any, of a PPV cut to. He has a rabid segment of fans, but they are mostly just the loudest guys in the corner of a bar. This PPV buyrate will be typical of what Anderson gets for his lower selling main events in the last several years.

I agree.

Diaz only became a draw when he fought GSP.
His fans took the GSP buyrate numbers and ran with it.

The only way we are seeing 1M+ buys for a ppv in 2015 is if BRAAAWWWCCCKKKK LESNAR comes back to take care of unfinished business.

I was surprised how busy the bar was for the fight. It was definitely a success for ppv numbers.

Penn was the champion and was thought as one of the greats when he fought Sanchez, plus Sanchez had a lot of fans back in the day because of his brawling style. Diaz vs Penn, Penn was a struggling fighter with the lust of champion gone. Diaz vs Condit did 400k buys, which is decent for the people who were on the main card.

But will it do more than ronda-zingano?
Shes the biggest star in the ufc ya know

to be fair, an octogenarian attempting to light a bag of excrement on fire but struggling with the lighter for ten minutes until he forgets what he's doing and where he is and then wanders into traffic would probably sell better than the Ronda/Zingano PPV.

His newsletter said it looks in the 650k range BUT ... he said it is too early to say how accurate that is (before others start misquoting him like they always do)

PPV didn’t quite reach the levels of Jones-Cormier, but the earliest indications were 650,000 buys, which was far more than I had expected, based on the earliest numbers that came out.

Keep in mind that any estimate this early in the game could be way off and I don’t even like to estimate numbers this early (my own estimates that have historically been pretty close indicate a slightly lower number, but still in that range, and anything first two weeks can vary greatly from the actual numbers, but not enough that the show wasn’t a surprisingly big success).

For whatever it's worth Chael said that Meltzer's numbers are always low, like 100-200K too low.

I never understood how come they don't know all along how many people have bought the pay per views

It's the digital age, and surely whenever someone buys a PPV a little counter ticks, adding that to the pool

It's not like elections where votes have to be physically counted lol

Shit makes no sense

Jones outdrawing two names supposedly bigger than his and on a weaker card.

I am sure Chael would

But their is proof his final numbers are USUALLY spot on

WWE is a public company & releases EXACT numbers & Meltzers are right there with them as far as accuracy
Maybe 5-10% off

I was hoping he'd get at least $1m for the PPV buys in addition to his $500k base.

Would prefer he get paid $2m total but $1.5 isn't bad.

lol why do you care? Nick doesn't care how much you make

It is getting quicker & quicker
if there was only one provider it would be simple
But you have all the different cable providers & subsidiaries, plus satellite & oversees.
They also might have to wait to see about accuracy with billing (some might have refund policies, etc.)

You and I are trying to have 2 completely different discussions. Why even watch fights man? Just stick to your wiki records and score cards. Sounds like you'd enjoy that more.

And you can lose and still do BETTER THAN EXPECTED. It's not rocket science.

Well, Vegas installed Condit as favourite. If Diaz fans chose to throw their money at Condit bettors until they had it reversed, that's their business.

Yes, that is how betting works

Holy crap
You are bad at this

Yes you can lose & do better than expected

But no rational person thought Diaz would lose 89% of the rounds, so obviously Diaz did NOT (I repeat NOT) do better than expected (esp since he was FAVORED in one fight)

Your logical has holes EVERYWHERE

If an MLB team is expected to win 90 games & wins 70 instead, you cannot say they did "better than expected" because you like the team & enjoyed the games lol
