"Medical issues" have been pulling lots of fighters off cards lately

Besides injuries, think of all the staph, herpes, flu viruses people get though. And the hope is that medical checks are diligent enough to flag athletes for things like cardiac and neurological abnormalities before heading into competition. Makes sense that medical issues come up as often as they do considering the high likelihood of catching something random or injuring oneself in training or previous fight.

Pretty sure the complications Rumble eventually died from would be heavily associated with the drastic amount of weight he used to cut
This is really on him though. There was no way in hell he should have been fighting at WW!

You say it like its something wrong...its wrong that a guy that would probably fight at 170lbs or 163lbs (imaginary Super LW division) has to cut even more to manage to fight at 155lbs, LW´s jump back up to +170lbs on fight night, and his opponent is usually on the same boat, the thing with MMA is probably how diluted the sport or weight classes would be if they create a similar weight class system as boxing, in boxing works because they can fight everyone, in MMA its promotion centered, so even when the UFC has signed a huge chunk of the talent they would still end up with "dilluted" weight classes if they add more of them.
It doesnt have to be the SAME as boxing but the vast differences in weight is tough for your hendrickses and Gastelums of the world

You see it with some guys where their body just won't make that cut anymore after awhile.

I remember with Ian McCall for example near the end he was always having to pull out with freak illnesses or injuries.

Yep. Pretty sure this is what happens to Khamzat as well, he cuts a lot of weight and was always getting sick the week of the fight.

There has been a steady uptick in medical related withdrawals since the UFC insured them. Been going on for years, well before they left USADA. Weight cutting was an issue before too, but fighters used to not get paid if they backed out medically so more pushed through, even with other injuries. Not the case anymore.

For reference, here is an article from 2012 discussing the same thing.

Yea nobody is fighting with flu like symptoms anymore now that they have insurance. Amanda Nunes even pulled out the day of a fight against Valentina because of sinusitis lol

It's not just weight cuts. There are a bunch of factors
