McGregor has to cut 28lbs from now!!!!

This is not looking good for Conor. Damn. It would suck for him to lose only because he wasn't at his best.

It's absurd to even talk about Conor possibly losing because he was not at his best when the guy he's fighting only found out he was in 3 weeks before the day of the fight. Forget the fact that he called Mendes a B-level fighter, he's not even getting the best version of that "B-level fighter" so that should eliminate all excuses.

It would be pretty hilarious if he won the interim title and then have it get taken away for using an iv.

But it wouldn't really make any difference because he'd still fight Aldo next for the only belt anyone cares about. And if he didn't, then his next fight would be for an interim title anyway.

I don't even see why Conor should bother making 145. Sure it would look bad on him if he doesn't, but it wouldn't really change anything.

He can probably naturally slim down another 5lbs just by dieting, and dehydrate the rest a few days before the fight. It's still an extreme weight cut, but let's not fool ourselves, that is very much the norm at the top of any division that isn't heavyweight.

This. Ronda cut 13 lbs in one day and beat Miesha in that rock climbing challenge on TUF the next morning. Weidman was able to cut 30lb in a week and still fight.

lol

On the MMA Hour today Chael told a similar story about the Conor ESPN visit and said 22 pounds, not 28.

True, but Weidman still looked terrible in that fight and it's much less overall weight % for weidman than it is for Conor.

22pounds is a 13% weight cut, which is about what I expect, and is average, it's not a big cut.

30 lbs from 215 is actually a slightly higher % than Conor (assuming Conor is cutting from 167).

13.95% vs 13.17%

if Conor is 168 or smaller when he makes his final cut then it's a smaller percentage.

Uh, why would we do that?

It's definitely fair to say that Chael is known for lying and when he's not lying he's usually exaggerating.

If Conor misses weight and the interim title is off the table many a lol will be had

I doubt very much that Conor will miss weight. As much as Conor talks shit and all the guy is a professional, he does all the media, all the travelling around and promotion even in the late stages of a training camp for the (interim) title. No whining about all the required commitments, he get's shit done. He'll make the weight.

Wow, Sonnen squeals on fighters like they were helping him launder money.

cormier tried to cut tons of weight cause he had a horrible diet

rumble is doing fine, so these long term damage to organs seems to be just assumption of yours

"More than 75 percent of youth wrestlers have practiced dehydration for weight loss as a competitive practice, according to Vanderbilt University. Although losing a little water weight is part of the natural cycle of your body, severe dehydration can cause lasting damage to your kidneys and heart. As the 1997 deaths of three college wrestlers from dehydration weight loss proved, it can even be fatal -- which is perhaps the longest-term effect of all."

Three out of thousands and thousands of wrestlers. It's a very real risk, but the odds of it actually killing you are very small. You're more likely to die in a car accident driving to the event than you are from the weight cut.

Nobody asks us to reduce the maximum speed of automobiles to 20 mph even though that would save thousands of lives per year.
