One- Conor is not a UFC employee. He's a contracted worker.
Two- It's still up to Conor to perform. MMA isn't an office job where you can hide behind someone protecting you and reach the mountain top like you can in an office.
One - makes me look at it from a different viewpoint.
Two - Although you have a point, do you think the road to the top will be easier for someone the bosses like? For instance, if they know fighter A is not very good against wrestlers, do you think they'd schedule him fights that cater to his strengths?
