So I'm gonna slightly disagree here in that I do think theres nothing wrong with indulging in luxuries if you derive enjoyment from them - all clothing that isn't just like goretex is to one degree or another making a choice about what you wear to asthetic please and thats all good in my view.
Now I do agree that watches have become a lot like the a jumper with a big 'BALENCIAGA' on it - the whole thign is just to be about letting you know it was expensive and therefore the owner could afford it. BUT I do actually think Rolex deserves the position it has because I think it has a lot of really beautiful and timeless watches - Daytonas, day-dates, submariners etc.
I also think there are makes such as Franck Mueller which make really nice pieces whcih are art in their own way and a pleasing thing to own. I personally think the chunky 'watch that looks like a toy I got in a cereal packet' thing which defines like Jacob & Co or Richard Mille or Hublot is trash and them being expensive doesen't change that for me.
Side note: Balenciaga is rumoured to be a social experiment, on what the poor will do to "appear rich". Or, how much money people will waste to fake s lifestyle.
Ever notice how their stuff is very ugly, almost to the point of ridiculousness? It highlights society's pathetic attempt to fit in.
