McGregor and GSP, Irony, Double Standards, Short Memory

There are always going to be contenders. That's how it works. Conor fought short notice Mendes, who was beating him, and that was it. Please don't try to pretend like Conor cleaned out the division. You were talking about re-treads earlier in this thread. Robbie Lawler is the ultimate re-tread success story, so just stop. 3 years ago he was a fringe contender fresh off a split decision win over Rory MacDonald. He wasn't a legit contender. B y your own logic, Anderson had years to step up and fight someone of relevance at 205. He never did. HE"S STILL FIGHTING AT 185. Holloway right now might beat McGregor. Mendes with a full camp does beat McGregor. So again, just stop. You're acting like Conor is making these decision. The UFC is pushing these decisions on Conor while he was popular to make money. They made no attempt to protect him because he isn't as good as he's being presented as. They're trying to maximize their dollar before they can't anymore. They didn't expect that he would push back. All this is is a power and control game.
Silva COULD have stepped up and fought Jones. The UFC wasn't pushing Conor to go up in weight. The only thing the UFC is pushing on Conor is media obligations. This whole thing is about Conor wanting to focus on training, because he is fighting a bigger opponent who just beat the shit out of him and he has no idea how to win the rematch. Asking him to leave training to promote a fight that he's not even ready for is putting him in a no win situation. I imagine it went something like this....

"We need you to hop on this 14 hour flight to Vegas so you can shoot some commercials and do a mini press tour."
"I can't. I'm training."
"We really need you to do this."
"If you NEED me to do it, pay me 10 million dollars to do it."
"That's not going to happen. You're contractually obligated to do this."
"Fuck you. Check my Twitter."

It's not even very different from how GSP left the game. He's said in interviews that he would have given Hendricks the rematch if it wasn't for all the little games Dana was playing with him. I give both of them hespect for refusing to be bullied.

My position was that fans were beating Conor up for retiring, when GSP pulled the same move 2 years ago, and they're praising him now that he'll come back. GSP fans couldn't wrap their minds around the fact that someone would dare compare the two, and this thread devolved into a "how dare you?" mess.

There's always challengers. I'm not saying GSP ducked anyone. He didn't. I'm saying that if he left after beating Koscheck the second time, the argument that he retired after cleaning out the division would hold water. But he didn't. He stuck around and when he did actually retire, there were new challengers ready to fight. This isn't a knock on GSP. I'm saying that the state of the WW division when GSP left was more competitive than FW now. This is in response to people claiming the Conor is ducking Edgar.

1) There are massive differences in the way GSP and Conor retired, I've addressed those in previous posts and will not repeat myself here.

2) I don't know why you said what you said, I simply pointed out the inconsistencies in your logic.

3) Conor isn't ducking anyone. That argument holds no weight. Conor called out the greatest FW in the sport's history and then proceeded to knock him out within seconds. Anyone thinking Conor is ducking anyone is probably not worth responding to.

It's been fun chatting, enjoy the rest of your day.

Jones? Jones was still in College when they were trying to get Silva to move up to 205 for good. Do you think Conor is the only one who is training and has to travel in the midst of training? The only one asked to travel to promote fights? Yet they all do it. And Dana and Zuffa are somehow unreasonable for not giving him 10 million dollars? What planet do you live on? They're contractually obligated. That means they agreed to this in their contract. This is so not hard to understand that I'm not really sure what to say. GSP retired because he was burnt out. Conor is acting like a butt hurt child.

You act like there was never talk of a super fight between Jones and Anderson.

The same contract that says Conor has to do the press obligations allows him to retire at any time.

GSP, himself, said he would have gave Hendricks the rematch if it wasn't for the UFC, Dana in particular, playing games with him.

And you're acting like MMA began around 2011ish. The UFC wanted Anderson Silva to move up in weight as far back as 2006. He wouldn't do it. That is when they started trying to get GSP to move up, only after it became clear that Anderson wasn't going to move to 205. Anybody can retire at anytime. Nobody is contractually prevented from retiring. GSP had already planned on retiring before the fight. He had nearly retired prior to that a couple of times. Simply showing up to contractually required press conferences and commercial shoots isn't having someone play games with you. It's part of your job. So far Conor has had the most coddled career of any UFC fighter I've seen, so stop with this narrative you're trying to push forward. Nobody buys it.
