Fortunately the previous owners replaced the water heater right before we bought our house 2.5 years ago.

The central air unit on the other hand is from the 90s. Still works though. But considering we'll be in this house at least another 18 years, it's inevitable to have to replace it.

oof. how bad are the electric/heating bills?

I have solar so the electric bills are minimal. $10 delivery fee and the excess production credits offset the amount we go over in the summer.

The gas bills were never more than like $60 in the winter but they've doubled this year. Fortunately we don't need to run the heat all that much here.

Work complaint:

We're being asked to participate in a chili cook-off by department. No one in our department (including me) wants to participate. Woke up this morning and saw the passive aggressive emails are starting to come out.

I turned on the tap in the kitchen and it just blew out air. I didn't have any water at 10 AM. I checked my pressure tank and there was no water coming out the drain. There was power to the pump but no water. I called the pump company. They showed up at 1PM and I had water back by 3 PM. The check valve in the Morrison head was frozen closed. It probably froze a couple of days ago. The check valve only holds back air in this system so no water to expand and break things. I thought it would be the pump because it's over 20 years old. They said the pump was good. I keep thinking I should have had them install a new one because it will probably go out shortly.

I overheard the other day inside a store, an employee was talking on cellphone saying something like he sends emails and then doesn't like having someone correct him each time he gives directions. I'm thinking, then don't be incorrect so often.

Maybe the pipes need some polyethylene foam coverings almost like pool noodles. I wonder if hot water will stay hot longer with that.

Just bring in some canned chili, Stagg brand maybe but any will do, and just try to pass it off as your own recipe. Worked for principal Skinner with his Skinner family patented steamed hams.

That was in the original email: "no store bought chili".

I suppose I could cover the well head. It's been there since 1978 and never had a problem before. It has been as low as -40 F and several times the temperature didn't get above -20 F for a week at a time.
