This has been a thing for a long time, right? I have vivid memories of a trip to it when I was a kid 2.5 decades ago. Eating escargot and playing on these huge ice slides/ice playground. Then French speakers being rude to me in the hotel elevator.

One of the best family trips ever.

We're going sub zero in my area. Rochester, NY. Getting windy right now. Supposed to get some snow but not much. Personally, I love the cold and snow. Beautiful and invigorating.

I suppose I could cover the well head. It's been there since 1978 and never had a problem before. It has been as low as -40 F and several times the temperature didn't get above -20 F for a week at a time.

1 6ft piece of polyethylene foam, pre-slit and some with pre-slit w/self adhesive, costed just under $2 at Lowe's. They have diff diameters. Polyethylene is supposed to be a chemically stable plastic suitable for food service. Made in Canada or USA.

The made in China pool noodles at Walmart felt really almost oily. Don't know what kind of nasty recycled plastic they used.

I'm in Massachusetts, it's going to get pretty damn cold here as well but not quite at bad as further north. I'm looking forward to it, I love a bit of extreme weather, but also feel for all the folks who are stuck outside. They're opening a bunch of shelters and heating places, but no doubt there's probably lots of people who don't even know it's coming and may freeze to death.

After an extremely mild month of January, the province is bracing for a blast of arctic air that will move in tonight and last until Saturday. Environment and Climate Change Canada has issued extreme cold warnings that covers most of the province with wind chills expected to be between -38 and -42 across the South and -50 across Northern Quebec.

I think we're supposed to get to -30 with the wind chill. It's been pretty warm here as well - it will be back in the 50s next week.

Expected and predicted patterns of global warming - warmer winters with occasional periods of extreme weather.
