Back in the day it used to be common wisdom that you should never let your tank get below a quarter tank.

The reason was that the gas wasn't completely clean, and the bits of sediment would gather at the bottom of the tank. And if you let your gas get too low then it would start using up that gas at the bottom of the tank and the sediment would end up in your engine.

I have no idea if that was true or not. It seems like it would depend on the car model and their system of getting the gas out of the tank.

The fuel is picked up near the bottom of the tank whether it's full or on E. It's the float that rises and falls with the fuel level. All that does is send a signal to the fuel gauge but the fuel has always been sucked up from the bottom of the tank on every vehicle I've worked on from the 60s on up. I think that's an old wives tale.

Also there is a strainer or sock that goes on the inlet to filter out the gunk.

With older car, 1/2, with new car 1/4 and I suspect gas tank is smaller. Rather get gas pump cooties on the hands less frequently, and seems like longer lines these days. I suspect people pump just a bit instead of fill up.

I try to avoid Costco for gas because once too many times dumbest shits park so far from the pump then expect you to barely squeeze in between cars to exit.

I did the math once and seems when super close to E, I should still have enough gas to drive maybe at least 8 miles. If some dumbass clips an overpass and causes 8 hr traffic back up, would run out of gas trying to drive to buy gas.

What women haven't liked it?

Have you plastered it all over your dating profile?

I'd only mention it if we were talking about hobbies otherwise it comes off as being a bit try hard.

It’s come to my attention lately that some people fill up their gas tanks when they still have a half tank, or a 1/4 tank. I find it to be totally bizarre.

Unless Im going on a road trip I don’t even consider getting gas until my gas light comes on. View attachment 964456 Why would I? To me getting gas is a total waste of time as a hobby.

Please, enlighten us with your reasoning for getting gas when you do.

if my light isnt on but its low enough while im out or near discount gas ill fill er up

Somewhere between 1/4 to 1/2 a tank. My thinking is "what's the furthest I'll likely have to drive on short notice?" and then I keep enough gas in the car to cover that trip. I keep the tank fuller during the summer since that's when I sometimes make last second trip to the cottage, and less in the winter since I'm not really going anywhere.

Women want a man who can protect them and make them laugh. Basically a Ninja Clown. -unknown

I always fill up when it's close to E with my work truck, but I go through 3 or 4 tanks of gas with that in a week. It's a company provided vehicle with a gas card though. I try not to let my SUV get under an 1/8 of a tank if it's winter. I've seen lines freeze from not keeping enough gas a vehicle before. I don't really go through a lot of gas on my personal vehicle. I probably fill it up once a month or so.

I always had a tax lady that was good and cheap but she's retiring now so for the first time in my life, I'll be doing my own taxes.

So, is TurboTax the way to go? Or are there better apps?

Thanks for all the tea advice. I’m gonna try some of those suggestions.

What did you all do over the weekend? I watched UFC and a lot of football. Eagles and Niners looking good and will play this weekend. Bengals will meet the Chiefs.

Relax bro it’s just gas

I have a feeling this would vary based on geographic area. Being in the city and having 3 gas stations a quarter mile in each direction of my house, im sure that makes me fill up less than someone in the mountains or mid west where gas stations arent as plentiful. Im also lazy and hate stopping before/after work so I ride it till the lights on for sure.

I normally don't let it get to 3/4 of a tank left. I like to keep it pretty much full for a couple of reasons.

1. If I have to spend time in the car I want to be able to leave the engine running fot heat overnight etc.

2. In the UK we've had fuel price protests a couple of times with the depots closed up and no fuel available anywhere. People who only filled up occasionally and ran their tanks right down got kind of screwed during this...

How cheap is cheap?

You don't want to try the large women at Walmart's Jackson Hewitt?

No fear of carbon monoxide poisoning?

My taxes are pretty simple, but I've been using Turbo Tax for several years now and I couldn't be happier with it. There are also tiers you can pay for if you need assistance. I used to go to H&R Block and I feel like I was getting ripped off now.
