I have a diesel Volkswagen. Yesterday I picked someone up and probably drove 20 minutes roundtrip- car was fine. We get back in the car an hour later and it smells like paint thinner or turpentine (she said like glue). It makes the both of us a bit dizzy to drive around in the car, even with the windows open.
The weirdest thing is that it reeks *even after the car has been off for hours*, even overnight. Got in the car this morning just to check and it still reeks. I even left the window cracked overnight and that didn't seem to make much difference. What could possibly be causing this with the car off? When the car's running I could imagine something leaking, but off?
I'm obviously going to call my mechanic on Monday, but- what could be causing this? No I haven't spilled anything, and I haven't had any paint thinner or other chemicals in there anyways. I don't see that the car is leaking fuel, I got down on the ground to check. I popped the hood and the odor isn't coming from there, same thing with the tailpipe. The odor makes me dizzy and nauseous, I now can't drive the car at all. What is going on.....?
