Max Holloway Considering 155, 170, 185

Do you see another belt in Max's future?

He could go up to 155 with some success but I don't think he could be a champion because he lacks the stopping power to make bigger guys respect him. I think his size for 145 is overblown, he never looks huge on fight night. He's just tall.

I'm pretty sure the reason for the botched weight cut for Khabib was that his leg was injured earlier that year and it probably stopped him from doing road work & he was a short notice replacement. Then when the weight cut got rough he probably fainted and bopped the fuck out of his head and gave himself a concussion.

If he could put a bit of muscle on that frame of his, he should be able to transition to 155 easily and eventually 170. Max losing a decision to Poirier, in his first fight back at 155 in nearly a decade isn't proof of anything.

Rumble went from being a possible contender at 170 to challenging for the title twice at 205 and taking out heavyweights when he was bored.

Ya just because he lost to Poirier doesnt mean he shouldnt fight at 155. Any guy that walks around in the 180s shouldnt be at 145.
Yeah I think he just needs to commit to the class so he has time to fill into it where he won't be dieting or cutting as hard anymore. Masvidal is a good example. He slowly filled in bit by bit into welterweight after leaving 55 for good and he's be having some good recent results.

Nothing of the sort happened during the weight cut against Khabib. The New York commission pulled him because they thought he couldn't make the weight, but this was because the commission Isn't used to these type weight cutting. Nothing to do wit hitting his head or passin out.

I think your confusing the Khabib fight with the Ortega fight that he was forced to pull out of. Due to concussion like symptoms.

Apparently he was having concussion-like symptoms before the weight cut even began, so that would dash my theory but it doesn't rule out the idea that he actually had some type of trauma-related injury. There were rumors circulating that his trainer had a hard time waking him up from slumber and that he was having flashing vision & other weird symptoms besides the slurred speech he had in his interview. Not really sure what happened there but it certainly didn't help his case with the commission.

That wasn't during the Khabib fight, that was the. Ortega fight. For the Khabib he was close supposedly, but the Commision thought he couldn't make it, Max was adamant he could but he didn't complain when the NY Commision pulled him.

i can't stand his dude...embarrassing gets KO'ed by mcrapist, beats a fading aldo twice, and beats a bunch of undersized manlets (lol couldn't finish a 40 year old Frankie) then thinks hes GOAT level up to 185.

Fuck his next fight with Volk, put Romero in there with him and make it at 185. It would be the first UFC Death

if you give him an opponent actually his own size ... we'll we've seen what happens.

he's not going to win a 155 title. Maybe top 5. Still some killer matchups i wanna see... Ferguson, Makhachev, Gaethje

Maybe try to win at 155 before you start talking about 185.

He's not going to be the biggest guy in those bigger divisions. He'd be lucky to get a belt at 155, but he'll look like Cerrone did at 170 versus top contenders. At 185 he won't even be top 10.

Love Max, but he had his shot at 155, and we know what happened.
What happened is he lost to the same guy at 155 that he lost to at 145. That doesn't mean that he has no place in the division, especially as his weight cuts get harder with age.

We already did and he beat the breaks out of them, Andre Fili, Will Chope, Cole Miller, Jeremy Stephens, Anthony Pettis. Infact some of two of those were bigger.

Blocking punches with your face like Max loves to do will not work out well the higher in weight he goes.

Khabib would ragdoll him as if he was weightless, and then Max would be completely outmatched on the ground.
It doesn't matter even if that did happen. He wants to be the best mma fighter that he can be and a fight with khabib would put a fire under his ass and make him grow regardless of the outcome.

He is a combination of
135 reach
170 height

He is fine at 145 and has no power at 155

Had his shot against a top 5 opponent who was considered the #1 contender outside of Tony. I’m not saying Max would be a world beater at 55 but it’s obvious he thought his take 10 shots to land 30 on you volume striking that worked at 45 would be enough for 55. It worked in spurts but not as great because the shots were harder. What if he chooses a slow burn this time at 155 though ? No rush to fight for the 55 belt so you fight some people on the lower end of the top 10’s so he can acclimate a new style to the division and most importantly get his body acclimated to the new weight. Then we could potentially see a new reformed max that could maybe make some waves at 55

The fight I saw was close but Poirier won by a considerable margin. He landed much harder shots and had Max wobbled multiple times.

I watched it live, and I wanted DP to win, and I remember as much and as hard as he hit max, he was coming on strong in the late rounds. I thought for sure Terminator Holloway was going to pull it out. So yeah Dustin definitely won, but Max was a live dog in that fight and he was never put away, he was coming forward the whole fight. If he puts on muscle mass and comes back to 155, I think he beats DP.

I'm not that interested in that until he loses at FW and we get a legit champ there.
Volkanovski could be very well that guy.

But FW has a lot of good up and comers. Zabit, Yair, Alexs, Kattar (this guy is the darkhorse) and Allen. Add Korean Zombie to that list and you have a lot of work there.
