Matt Lindland: Second Place Sonnen

I don't think he was "looking for a way out" in the first Anderson fight. Lindland's just using Sonnen's words against him whenever he loses a fight.

I think Lindland made his comments long before Chael talked about seeing a sports psychologist and all that stuff.

Inb4 people bash Lindland for "only" winning a silver medal
In his defense, Lindland at least won silver in a stacked weight class at the Olympics and another silver while going up in weight at the 2001 World Championships.

Well, Sonnen is by far the better fighter than Lindland. However, that doesn't mean Lindland is somewhat correct. Chael isn't a beast like, let's say Erick Silva or Maldonado, but that doesn't make him a bad fighter. He's a great fighter but he does have less heart than some others.

Chael is mentally weak. He has problems with sport, and he's the first to admit it.

He saw a sports psychologist to help overcome these problems.

There's no shame in being mentally weak. I wouldn't call it mentally weak. He is also superstitious.
According to his book, he doesn't really like his walk out song, but he refuses to change it.
I'm a huge Chael fan, and I think he did enough in the sport to make the HOF. He did have mental problems on fight day however.

its no secret really (even for biggest chael nuthuggers) that chael is very weak mentally. he cracks way too easy under pressure. he has tools to win, but as soon as its not going his way he quits.

if you think about it danas score of 4 makes sense.

grappling = 6

striking = 4

mental toughness = 2

6 + 4 + 2 = 12/3 = 4

With TRT at 16.9, the score becomes:

6 + 4 + 2 + 16.9 = 28.9
28.9/4 = 7.23

Really??! So what WOULD you be ashamed of if not being weak?

Just because he was never champ does not make him a failure.
