Nope. Not every veteran has made a name for themselves as Matt Brown did. Not every veteran had as many memorable moments. I'm not saying he's the greatest legend or even a great legend at all but he is a legend in the sport.

You don't need to be elite to be a legend, there plenty of guys who have had legendary careers without being close to the best at any stage of their career.

I'm not saying I would call him a legend, but win or lose he's provided me with a lot of entertainment over the years so I also wouldn't dispute it either.

Imho winning fights here and there against good competition doesn't necessarily make you a world beater, i've never considered him as one. Sure, at some point he had a good run and won some good fights but the fact that he never was the favorite against top competitors especially those he's beaten is another reason why i'd take his top contender status with a grain of salt.. Even more knowing how dramatically he lost against most of them. Sadly constancy has never been his biggest asset.
Champion or not many top contender were way scarier than him during their run to the TS, no one never expected Cerrone to become champion one day. Numbers don't always tell the truth.

This is how we're supposed to exchange various opinions like grown men with good manners.

The new ufc policy of giving ts based on entertainment value rather than merit and therefore giving interim belts left and right, stripping champions lightning fast, makes it harder to give a list of top contender that hasn't been at least interim champ. However, considering the long list of champs or interim champs from the past ten years i don't believe Cerrone is nowhere near their level of performance , even alvarez and Henderson at their peak were, imo, monsters comparing to what Cerrone has ever done...

Also Cerrone's never give a damn and let's have fun style may have trumped ppl's perception of him, this could be one of the reason why ppl never took him seriously.
