Nailed it.
Nailed it? In his own post you quoted he said, "a guy that made a decent name for himself." So "decent" equates to "legend"?
Nailed it.
I agree with you .... and in pankrat s defense- he knows his stuff- he's just too easily impressed with numbers and fighters in general. Hes too respectful to a fault. Even a good version of Cerrone is like a solid gatekeeper. He beat who he was supposed to beat( even lost a few of those) and he lossed to he was supposed to lose to. Hes one of thee most active fighters and has been around so ,of course, he has alot of UFC wins.Yeah yeah, most high kicks blablablah,
Never really been a top contender though , I've been following mma from the beginning and I can tell he's no where near being a legend in my book sorry
....and I'm sure that's the context ( I would hope) that they're throwing that word in reference to .....and still - a bad referenced word in that . Hes definitely had SOME memorable fights , no doubt- but.....His fights are legendary fo sure
I love the guy but I'm not gonna argue, his fights were too low key to be legendary I guess.....and I'm sure that's the context ( I would hope) that they're throwing that word in reference to .....and still - a bad referenced word in that . The word you’re looking for is veteran! He is a legend. Some of you guys make your own "elite" definitions for everything. A legend in a sport is just someone who has been at it for a long time and made a decent name for themselves.
He was never fast to begin withTS is casual
But I'll agree that this wasn't a veteran performance from Brown. He had to know that he is not as fast as when he was younger and definitely much slower than this kid... So he needed to get past the first and to push for more clinches and wresting... I don't know, it didn't look that he was prepared well. Just his old gameplan to get to the clinch and elbow his opponent, but a lot slower and lumbering and with worse chin.

I'm tough on fighters, I admit but I try to assess things from my point of view. Again, it's just an opinion. It's a fight forum and I even respect your opinions .I've had to read ALOT of your posts to understand where you're coming from ( that's not a slight towards u). I absolutely do THINK I know what I'm talking about- that doesn't make me an "elitist ".You've used that word before so I know u were aiming that pistol at me. Flip side of coin( like I've said before), I know there are people who know better than me.Yeah I'm not an elitist.
But in this case I'm not even arguing Cerrone to be one of the best LWs ever.
I'm just saying that the fighter who holds the record for most wins and especially finishes in UFC history certainly has the right to have the word legend attached to his name - and he will when he retires, by fellow fighters, media and most fans. You can take it for granted.
Regardless, that front kick guy is a clear hater, to deny Cerrone was a top contender is nonsense. Cerrone was not champion material but he was a top contender and is not even debatable, he has literally fought for the belt and a win over him got u right in tittle contention so it's what it is

Diego won the Ultimate Fighter and was a legit contender for years.
The others are not legends.
Sure and he should be respected....but to call J-Lau a legend is a joke. Ken-Flo schooled J-Lau badly.Lauzon was at one time tied with Silva for most performance bonuses in UFC history. He's earned his stripes
Again, we're going into numbers and rankings which are opinions that are subjective and in some UFC cases - politic based( and some are totally legit). This is why my opinion of what I'm watching becomes my output. I've seen Donald lose more relevant/ contender fights than hes won. His fight with Nate speaks volumes. That was a fight he was a decent favorite in and got boxed up for 3 rounds ....and that was 2 good versions of both.Im not going to put any credulous label on anyone that I just dont agree with... that's me.I dont use the word "elitist" necesarilly in a bad sense, and particularly when aimed to you.
It's just another way of saying to be "tough on fighters"
Anyways whether if Cerrone is an "elite" fighter or a "legend" or he is not, I guess it can be debatable.
That he was a top contender is a fact.
Yeah everyone has an opinion but if you get awarded the Nobel prize you are a Nobel prize winner, if you earn a fight for the tittle you are a tittle contender. Period.
Cerrone fought for the tittle in UFC and WEC so it is what it is. If he eventually got relegated to a gatakeeper status is another story. Fighters dont remain as top contenders forever.
Actually, after they fight for the tittle and fail, many of them lose a step if only because the drive is not the same

The fact that he has had no fewer than 3 title shots during his runs in WEC and the UFC leads me to disagree with you there. I can see how the fact that he won none of them (and got pretty badly clowned in 2 of them) can muddy the waters a bit, though.
he's a legend for people who have been watching for awhile. has a ton of fights. won everyone money against Erick Silva. he's definitely a legend if cowboy is a legend

Chad mendes amongst many others also fought 3 times for a ufc belt and i still don't give him mma legend status
