Is it acceptable that some refer to him as a legend of this game? Sure. He has a unique backstory and a good following, has been around forever, and has some seriously impressive wins.

Did you read any of my posts? The fact you think I think Matt Brown is a legend proves you're a fucking idiot and haven't read anything I've posted in this thread. I openly admit legend probably isn't the right word, but there needs to be a word for guys like Brown/Sanchez.

Interesting fact; the Matt Brown/Robbie Lawler fight was for #1 contendership in the WW division way back when. It was also one of the most closely contested fights you'll ever see and if you watch it again you'll likely see Brown as more deserving of the decision than Robbie. I mention this to highlight the fact that when Matt Brown was at his peak in MMA (2013-2014) he was a truly legit contender at 170. Very few wanted to stand up with the guy and those that did usually got their asses handed to them. The guy was pure aggression and offense and just so damn tough, but he also improved exponentially over the course of his career too, which goes a long way as to explaining why he had all those early losses and realtively few in his peak years. Dude was an animal and massively underappreciated around here by many.

Whether the term legend applies to him is really besides the point for me; legend means different things to different people and as such it could legitimately apply to him for some people and not for others. There are no set parameters that I'm aware for what constitutes a legend in a given sport. For damn sure the guy was an elite fighter at his best and an absolute warrior throughout his career and he deserves to be recognized for his contributions to MMA.

I'm still pretty choked about not getting to see him and Condit fight when they both mattered in the division... hell, the UFC might match them up for a Fight Night in the near future just cuz! Won't be the same though, will it?

If Kevin Randleman is a legend in the ufc, Matt Brown should be as well. Came up through the ultimate fighter and even he wasn't in the finals he has done better than most winners.

Brown is a journeyman who was once tapped out 4 times in 5 fights. In his prime, he was able to put on showcase fights against guys who didn't really belong in the UFC. Against higher caliber talent, he was ALWAYS outmatched.

He doesn't belong on contract anymore, despite clearly still being game and willing. He is not a UFC caliber fighter and he should move on to greener pastures.

Personally I'd like to see him stop taking head trauma, but if he wants to stick around MMA a bit longer it should be against more appropriate competition in another org.

He had extremly close fights with the likes of Robbie Lawler or Stun Gun so definitly not always out matched when fighting top competition.

His winning streak that included Thomson, Swick, Silva, Mein or Pyle is above "journeyman" league.

Definitely some weird trend I've noticed.

Everyone who has fought a long time in the UFC is called a "legend".

If has been a tittle contender on top of a ling time UFC vet...yep, I guess has a case for being called a legend.

Ed Herman, for example, having fought for so long in UFC never got close to tittle contention so I dontt think the word legen will be attached to him that much

Out of those guys you mention, only one was a top10 ranked for a decade and actually fough for the tittle in UFC.
I'd say Okami has a strong case to be called legend.

Just being around for a while isn't legendary. Feats determine it. This has been confused in recent times with veterans like Diego, Guida and Cowboy, too. At no point in their career did anyone view them as legends. You don't get it by default for taking fights.

Not just beating but finishing Swick, Pyle, Mein and Silva in a row is not what u expect from a journeyman. Actually, it got him the chance to fight the two best dogs in the division back to back and gave them tough fights.

Fighters who remain for a decade + in UFC are hardly journeymen, generally speaking, they get cut sooner.
But even then, I' say a guy as Ed Herman, who was never a top10 guy, never main evented in UFC nor holds any mark in all-time UFC stats - unlike Brown . fits better the very definition of journeyman

Let me stop you there. Brown loses almost as a rule against ranked fighters. Not once in a while, this is on repeat. That isn't even to say he was once tapped out 4 times over 5 fights in the UFC.

Elite fighters do not get put away in 4 of 5, frankly you shouldn't even keep your job, but he's a likeable fighter to watch.

Brown can beat guys who don't belong. He has a 22-17 record, for crying out loud, 'best finisher' when he's not losing over and over. Come on.

That is -exactly- what you would expect from a competent journeyman. Pyle goes on to a 2-5 UFC record after fighting Brown. The records and careers in context of these fighters speak for themselves.

If you get tapped out 4 times in 5 times you are usually gone. He surely qualified to be gone. Dana kept him, and thats OK.

Even a completely shot Jake Ellenberger could put Brown away. His record is his record. Matt is a fun guy to watch against guys who are on the way out or don't belong in the big show. He is not and was not ever truly competitive with ranked fighters.
