Matchmaking has to change

Didn’t know Matt Dillahunty posted on Sherdog <lol>

Just my opinion based on how private equity typical operates

The question isn't about TKO's general modus operandi, about which I agree. The issue is the specific claim that somehow Lopes vs Volk 2 = a money fight that could help them pay off loans in any significant way more than Volk vs Murphy. This seems specious given the UFC's guaranteed revenue.

If we want to use circular reasoning and claim that a headline matchup being made is proof in itself that TKO believes it will help them pay off loans, this must mean that Vinicius Oliveira is a money draw.

I think Hunter Campbell needed Lopes to win the belt to fulfill the Prophecy of the Chosen Fake Mexican foretold by the Oracle of Gorbanon. That's just my opinion and I will get defensive if you challenge me on it.

I agree with what others have said that TKO actually have a lot of debt to service, and they are totally prioritizing short term profits over long-term legitimacy and integrity.

As a result, the UFC is throwing merit out the window and just engaging in fan service. Title shots are increasingly dictated by popularity rather than merit.

I agree, make the Dagestani crotch sniffers fight each other and keep them far from numbered UFC cards and title fights.

Every card is garbage right now saving everything for White house card. I think they trying to have entire main card title fights and probably will air on CBS not paramount . They are thinking the WH card will attract more fans with massive exposure on its biggest ever card.

So WH card better be insane at least 200/ MSG 1 level grest on paper.

Bones v Pereria
Illa vs Gaethje
Kayla vs Nunes
Mak vs Usman
Aspinal v Gane

Main card better be something like that for all the bad cards were getting leading to it..........
Would be crazy if they actually do the 7 title fights like they said. Good time to go all out with no PPV keeping normies out. I'm just gonna say if it's a 300 equivalent, it won't make the same impact as going all out. UFC has less PPV motivation to spread the fights around now too. Gonna suck before and after when there's nothing.

bad and slow match making is a common theme i've gotten used to over the years unfortunatly. I have zero expectations and just look at it like a roll of the dice. Might get a good matchup. prolly won't. Might be a fun fight to watch regardless. Might not be. Welcome to mma.

Islam is the one who wants that fight. And it's understandable, it does way more for him legacy wise. It's not like Usman is some shot fighter like a Stipe vs Jones. Usman is very much still on top of his game and a top WW.
Usman is totally shot; he has no knees.

It is changing.

This IS the change.

Get ready for whoever has the most social media followers to get the red carpet treatment and guys like Lerone Murphy and Evlòev to eliminate eachother.

This is it baby. Paramount era is here.

#5 v #6 for a title. This is what we do now.

TKO along with everything else that is built on an infinite growth financial market is heading into a dangerous territory with a painful crash coming at some point.

US is leveraged upside down and inside out.
It's not sustainable.
The major jumps in precious metals is an indicator, big money is starting to hedge their bets. The smart people can read the writing on the wall.

Thus far it has been highly highly profitable to keep betting on the "I'll pay you Tuesday for a hamburger today" finance model, leveraging debt to the ceiling and betting on the inflation to overshoot the interest but that doesn't end well. Especially since they seem to be committed to ride it til the wheels fall off.

"Squeeze every penny out of it now" is not a strategy that is factoring in the long term picture.

If you are right, then the UFC might just deny Mosvar Evloev a title shot if he beats Lerone Murphy in March.

We got kid rock singing about underage girls,
and an event planned at an actual (child) rapist house.

Yet we are only concerned ...

that "matchmaking" lost the plot.

<NoneOfMy>

They were trying to feed Usman to Cuckley for a spectacular KO but Joaquin has pitiful counterwrestling

I think I figured Ali's schtick out. He makes it look like he has "access" and is getting his guys fights higher on the card, which is true, but he negates to mention that his guys take a severe paycut. Go see for yourself in Buckley vs Usman, where Kamaru was outearned almost 2x by Thug Rose on the midcard.
What did Buckey do wrong to deserve this? He did fine with his defensive wrestling against Colby and Jordan Storley and other wrestlers. Usman is a step ahead of those fighters.

Usman is totally shot; he has no knees.

But yet he's able to dominate and beat Buckely, and lose a close decision to a prime Khamzat a division up?? You can claim shot all you want, performances say otherwise. That is what counts.

No matter what fans can pick out some fights that don't make the greatest sense. For the most part I think the UFC does a good job with it.

We don't know what the UFC's original plans are for any of these match ups/events. They can't force guys to fight and with so many cards now and better pay(could be more) fighters don't seem to worried about passing over fights. They know they can get on another card 6 or 8 weeks later. 15-20 years ago they may had to wait 4 or 5 months to get on a another fight card. I guarantee you match making back then was a lot easier than today. I won't want that job.

What change lol?? It's always been like this.

Chael Sonnen - Unranked direct title shot at LHW coming off a loss at MW - 2013
Dan Henderson - #13 ranked gets a title shot at Bisping - 2016
Nick Diaz - #5 ranked gets a shot after losing to Condit and ahead of Hendricks who was on a big win streak and #1

This is just going to be a different way of doing it. Back then it was about PPVs, now it may be about ratings and TV viewership. But it doesn't change.

The sad thing is, Mosvar vs. Sterling was one of the greatest displays of MMA wrestling ever seen, and no one knows about it.

UFC matchmaking has always been shit imo; that includes Joe Silva.
