Masvidal is not a good matchup for Burns

I meant ‘at distance’, which you see in one of the strike category columns if you unfurl the sig strike section.

The diss was [Mas got outstruck by Colby] So I looked into it and that’s what I found. I mean, it kind of matters. We shouldn’t be tallying ground strikes when comparing two fighters standup skills.

But even if you calculate significant strikes without the ground shots, Colby still outright won. And in this case, it's comparing Burns style to Mas, and to me it's evident that Burns in close striking, with the threat of TD's is something that can (and will) dominate Mas. I typically don't like the significant vig variances in mma betting lines but the implied win probability of Burns at %80+ is fairly dead on.

Masvidal is one of the most overrated fighters in the UFC. He has never beaten a top contender. He just has a big mouth and somehow keeps getting fights against top contenders.
Probably more underrated at this point than anything.

Take away his 4 split decision robberies and his record, especially coming into the UFC increases dramatically.

He's always been near the top of the food chain. Just never quite there.

Much like Robbie Lawler was before he became champ.

It wasn't like Mas suddenly arrived when he knocked out Ben.

Why is Masvidal being permitted to fight again by the UFC? He blitz attacked a previous opponent in public and was criminally charged (but not convicted.) Not sure I follow the logic.
same reason conor got away with a bus attack and khabib got away with jumping the cage and attacking people in the crowd. bad press is better than no press

So you don't understand colby style than. The numbers are very important of course but just like soccer they don't tell everything. Colby's style is constant pressure and he uses his kinda reckless striking to setup his grappling in a very similar fashion to khabib (in some aspects he is more similar to khabib than Islam). There is no really surprise he got outstrike at distance since he usually does. He usually doesn't keep high defense from a distance as he tries to build pressure and momentum.

I am not disputing that Colby won. All I am saying is that Masvidal outstruck him at distance in rds 1-3. Regarding the Burns matchup, I think it’s hard to call. Burns is a beast early but he fades quickly. Meanwhile, Masvidal might be over the hill.

Masvidal's place is in the cage, but in the one where the sun rises square.

Yes, Burns is probably the better fighter and probably outgrapples him in this fight.

But Masvidal is not the easy fight that people think he is. Burns is slower and less skilled on the feet with a worse chin. If they stand up, I'd favor Masvidal.

Masvidal's takedown defense is decent and his grappling defense is excellent. Burns isn't the chain wrestler that Colby is and it won't be an easy submission for Burns either. Masvidal hasn't been subbed in over a decade.

I still think Burns wins. But he definitely should not be a -500 favorite.
Masvidal is 38 approaching 39.
This is a young man’s sport.
He does have great hair, I’ll give him that.

Burns turns 37 in a few months. Young man's sport, you say?

Mas will win but only if burns loses. Otherwise Colby wins.
