Translation - Its going to run on PS5/XBX the same way it'll run on PS4/XB1.

So, don't expect any 120FPS & Ray Tracing on next-gen consoles.

Big missed opportunity, especially for the full $60 pricetag.

It was a long shot, but I was keeping my fingers crossed that they would improve ME1 combat mechanics to be more in line with 2 and 3. Will still pick the game up, but in no hurry.

Yeah that kinda kills it for me. I'd basically be paying 60 bucks for a texture pack and hdr. I haven't played the dlcs, but if I really felt the need I'd have purchased them by now.

Still looks good for people new to the series or who really want to wash away the taste of Andromeda.

It’s not going to run the same. In the article it says faster load times, more stable frame rate, and can maintain a higher resolution.

Nothing groundbreaking but still an improvement for next gen.

Sounds like for you it'll be worth it whenever the price is dropped to $40 or $30.

The DLCs for ME2 are quite possibly the best DLCs in the history of gaming, with the exception of Witcher 3's. Trust me on this one, they're awesome.

As for ME1's and ME3's, I haven't played them, but I will say I'm actually glad I didn't bother with one of ME3's DLCs, the one with the last surviving Prothean... supposedly THOUSANDS of years old yet speaks with a Jamaican accent? If I can't exclude that from when I play ME3 this time I'm going to be ignoring him as much as possible and skip over all the cutscenes he's included in.

Anyway, if there wasn't going to be any PS5/XBX upgrades to the performance there's no reason why EA/Bioware should have waited so long... into the next console generation... to release these remasters. Should have began working on it right after Andromeda, with a small team, and they would have been released by 2017 at the latest. Or sub-contracted the development to another studio.

They are. The PCGamewr article seems like a more in depth look at the overall changes.

Is it a remake, or a remaster?
Erm... it's complicated. The original Mass Effect game has received a more substantial touching-up than Mass Effect 2 and 3, primarily around the combat system and UI. This makes sense, as the first game was more of an RPG and the sequels greatly improved the combat: so Mass Effect 1 is receiving something of a rework.

The game's UI and various interfaces have been overhauled, and combat and exploration brought in-line with the sequels' improvements: better aiming, squad controls, team AI, and camera positioning. On the last point, for example, you'd commonly take cover in that game and get a brief view of the interior of Shepard's skull: no more. Finally, and perhaps most-wanted of all, the handling of the Tonka-like Mako surface vehicle has been overhauled. I always hated the way this thing drove, so good news.

That aside, there will be no big changes to the adventure itself. At one point there were discussions about pursuing a more ambitious route, technologically speaking, but that would have put Bioware in a position where, essentially, the games were being rebuilt from scratch.

So what does this remaster do for the PC guys? Mods seem to be doing just as good, if not better in like all the departments that the remaster is tackling.

Sounds like they're going to keep us in suspense until after the release date what improvements will be made for the PS5/XBX then.

Is there a mod that revamps the combat mechanics and UI of the original?

I know mods exist for both but we also dont know how the remaster revamps the combat [from an outsider's perspective as I dont know wtf Mako is lol]

I don’t think so. It probably experiences some occasional frame drops on current gen and they’re likely using a dynamic resolution to keep the game running smoother.

The additional power in the new consoles should allow it to run without those limitations. We’re seeing that with a lot of BC games depending on how the game is structured.

All I really want to know now is whether the PC version will have controller support this time. Had to use the mod on all my playthrough which works fine but native support would be better.

The Mako is vehicle type combat in the game that you are forced to do like three times. It was so bad the first time I had to do it because I didn't know what I was doing and it can actually be hard if you do it wrong. Now I've learned how to cheese the whole thing so I don't even care that they are revamping it. Don't really see any other changes they could make to ME1 combat that I would really care about.

The main reason to get this is to avoid having to use mods in general. Mods are great but it's just more work to do it and anytime you format your HD or have to redownload the game you have to reinstall the mod. Including controller support and all the DLC is enough for me to grab this day 1. I never played all the DLC because it was always overpriced. I only picked out the top rated ones or the ones that expanded story lines that I wanted to follow.

Now the main issue with all this is from what I saw the mods look better. With that said it was a youtube video and worst case scenario they configure mods to work on this game as well but now you have all the DLC also.

I’ve never played a ME game.

I hadn't played the trilogy until after I played Andromeda.

Not sure if I'll play the remasters though unless there's really nothing else to play.

Yeah I’m kind of in a rare position of this being perfect for me because it seems almost everyone has already played them at some point.

You're in for a treat. The ending of ME3 was a letdown, but the journey to get there is crazy good. There are so many great companions and quests, it's Bioware in top form. They added in an extra ending or something after the backlash, but I never played it/them, so I'm looking forward to playing it all again to get a different result. No spoilers from those who did please.

Hell, ME1 on its own is a great story. Most seem to love 2 most, but 1 is my fav, as I love the near self-contained story (like Star Wars Ep IV). The universe is so new and fresh too.

Combat improves in the follow-ups, but biotics (their magic system) is tops in 1, if not OP. Level design in 2 and 3 is far more cover shooter based, so it looks like a grid/paintball/laser tag arena at times. You can always tell what area combat will take place in, feels less organic

Like @GearSolidMetal says though, the DLC in 2 is amazing, and there's a great fan service DLC in 3 that I adored. It's all worth it!

I might actually wait for cheaper still. I'm currently in the middle of Blasphemous, Nioh, Ori WotW, the Demon's Souls remake, Vampyr, Othercide, Wasteland 3 and have Miles Morales to start.

That's after giving up on a couple of games that I realized I was just never gonna bother finishing. I'm also thinking of finally playing Uncharted 3 and doing new game+ on the recent God of War.
