Movies Marvel Studios in Crisis - A Variety Article

Black Widow was the last one I really enjoyed. It felt like a character-driven story that humanized Natasha. It had actual dialogue and not just constant quips. That’s the direction they need to go, not vfx goats screaming at Thor. I haven’t seen Guardians 3 yet though and I’ve heard some good things about it

I think thats probably the best MCU film since End Game, a bit messy I spose like Guardians 2 was but I think with some substance to it.

To be fair I think most MCU stuff I'v seen since End Game does have something to recommend it, I don't think its a franchise which is lacking in ideas the way say the Starwars sequels were but its too often in a rush to get to "big things happening" rather than building up to them.

Even Thanos really was not that significant before Infinity War, he appeared a little and the stones were setup but really the films before that were focused on building up their heroic characters.

What's their most successful movie ever?

End Game?

1. Avengers: Endgame
$2,797,501,328

The movie primarily follows the revenge story of the main Avengers cast. That being, Thor, Captain America, Iron Man and Hulk. There is only one small "girl power" moment...but you would be remiss if you think the entire filmed revolved around girl power.

It culminated with the heroic sacrifice of a straight white father and husband to "save the day"

Wanna try again?
Yes, Endgame is their most successful movie ever. It had strong girl power themes. There’s an entire section of the movie dedicated to it.

Using your limited logic, the movie would have bombed.

Normal people hate the woke shit. Only weirdos like that shit. That's why every woke show fails. That's why every company that goes woke loses money.
They don’t care about it. Your brain is rotten so you obsess over it.

They do. You live in a bubble.

Look at what happened to Bud Light. A fringe minority can't do that to a msassive brand.
Yes, people obsessed with woke identity politics are a fringe minority, not normal people. Glad that’s established.

- I know South Park's commentary on Disney and Kathleen Kennedy is a hot topic right now. But, I think the biggest point was made by Adam Conover (Adam Ruins Everything and a guy very involved in the writers' strike). He stated before the strike that there are glaring issues in the writers rooms across Hollywood. In particular, it's extremely hard to make it as a writer for movies/shows. People can no longer afford to "strike it out in LA". Instead, these tend to be trust fund babies that went to elite colleges and live off of an allowance from mom and dad. As a result, they have no idea what the common person is going through. They will continue to write their protagonists as silhouettes of themselves. Likewise, the "bad guys" will continue to be misguided individuals that need to be "educated" by the elitist hero.

There was a great discussion on that on Boyscast a few weeks ago. They were talking about journalists. Only rich kids can be journalists now because there's no money in it outside the top 1%. So we have people like Anderson Vanderbilt Cooper instead.

Can't tell if that's just poor reading comprehension on your part or if you're just spiraling now.

How did they destroy a massive brand like Bud Light if they are a fringe minority?

IMO the #1 issue is all the new heroes are just copies of the old heroes. They need to stop that. Bring in real new heroes with new powers that are different from everyone else. Nobody wants to see a black Iron Man woman. Nobody wants to see BP but it's the sister now. Lets do Hulk but it's a woman now. Hawkeye but it's a teenage girl now. Black Widow but it's her sister now.

It's all so lazy and uninspired. I'm kind of shocked Kevin F. ok'd all these decisions. They should have brought in the mutants already and started doing story lines based on that. The purchase was completed like 4 years ago we should already have movies coming out for this.

The problem is creating a new IP (new characters) that can rival the old ones. Aside from Fox Marvel characters (F4, X-men/mutants) who else is popular/cool/fun enough to replace the OG cast? The answer is no one. You simply cannot beat that OG cast with that OG history/material source to pull from.

The quality had nowhere to go but down.

The main problem was it took way too long for Disney to acquire Fox. They didn't close till 2019 and it takes several years to setup. We're watching average shit while we wait for Fantastic 4 and the X-men.

Bud Light is already on the way to recovery. The fringe has left it to empty their diapers on the next thing. Remember when you guys were told by Kid Rock not to buy it and then he was slamming them back a couple months later?

Your kind has no staying power. The normal Americans always outweigh you and always will. You’re going to be remembered as a stain in history books.

The story primarily revolved around the 6 main avengers. Of which all were white and straight and only 1 was a female. I wouldn't call this a girl power movie. This was NOT ghostbusters. And Disney is finding out the hard way that an entire movie based around strong female leads or casting for diversity instead of just casting strong actors is proving to be a failure.

We will see how "the Marvels" does...but my confidence is not high.

I'm not watching this shit.

Hell, I only watched the first Captain Marvel flick just to see the 30 second post credit tie in to end game.

And the only movie that managed to get me to the theatre post End Game was this one.

If I were in charge of Disney, I'd be bringing back Andrew and Tobey into regular roles. But...they won't. Because straight white men.

Answer the question. If it's a fringe minority, how did it destroy bud light?

How did a fringe minority do that?

It didn’t destroy Bud Light lol. They’re going to be fine and their other beers just replaced their own beer on the best selling list.

There are lots of mentally unwell people who obsess about identity politics, that doesn’t make them close to normal and even further from a majority.

Target is fine, whatever other company the crazies tried to bring down is fine.

I’m not either because I don’t care about it. It looks boring and the average person doesn’t care about the fringe super hero they set up in Wanda Vision and Ms Marvel. Almost like there’s a *gasp* oversaturation of this.

Now a deranged person will look at it, see multiple women in the leads and think it’s woke. Normal people will ask “who are these people?” and move on.

Batya Ungar-Sargon brought that up a couple years ago on The Hill.

Journalism used to be a blue collar job, local in nature, and you didn't need a college degree.

That has since changed.

Phase 4 had some bangers.
I really enjoyed Dr Strange 2, No Way Home, Shang Chi and Werewolf by Night.

She Hulk was funny too because it was written exactly like the comics and triggered so many people.

Secret wars should've been a movie not a tv show
Give me a great silver surfer fantastic four v galactus (not some cloud the big helmeted planet eating one) Annihilation space epic and I'm in
Give me the Thing vs the Champion after he's laid waste to the other stronger heroes and the Thing goes all Rocky cool hand luke on him and I'm in
Give me Thanos prequel with him conquering the elders of the universe or bring Thanos back from the multiverse somehow and put him against the cosmic ghost rider and I'm in.
Try the dark phoenix saga again done right and I'm in
give me a one off contest of champions with some established characters and some crazy d-listers fighting for a macguffin and I'm in
give me that Doom & Dr. Strange go to hell to save doom's mom storyline and I'm in.
Give me a villain vs villain movie or villains vs villains movie Doom vs Kingpin, or Doc Ock vs the Green Goblin where I don't know who will win or who I should root for, I'm in.
Give me great writers like Jason Aaron and Donny Cates leading the writing team and you'll get some metal af storylines
Plan for 2 movies a year, one in the summer 1 for x-mas season
Slow down the tv shows and do them based on street level stuff, save the epic stuff for the big screen
Go back and find the best runs of a comic and do them pretty close to how they were done in the comics, if it was a popular run, the story should still resonate.
Trust the audience to get it when you put in empowerment stuff, do it as part of the storyline and subtly, don't bang us over the head with it.
get wierd with what you do, these are comic books, their supposed to be trippy and crazy and surprising, get back to those roots.
Have some kind of philosophical underpinning to the stories, not just a social agenda. make me wonder if maybe magneto or thanos are right in their goals.
Remember the heroes make the story but the Villian makes the movie good or bad. So spend some time developing the villians backstoryies too....Don't just give me Dr. Doom is bad, give me why Dr. Doom is bad, show me him being bad and bad ass, give me moments to make me wonder, wait a minute is Dr Doom good or at least redeemable, then double down on how evil he is. etc.
roll out comic accurate Doom, Mephisto, Nightmare, Bullseye, Taskmaster, Enchantress, Absorbing Man,
give me villain teams vs hero teams
I've read comics for about 50 years give or take, there is enough good crap already written that you shouldn't be putting out eternals or crappy love and thunder from a storyline that was fantastic in the comics...
