Margarito vs. Cotto

I got Cotto by overwhelming tko late in the fight! i thinkit'll look like the old grinding Cotto

I think Cotto's got the advantage, because I believe he's got a better skillset and is capable of going into a trenches war without folding under Margarito's pressure.

If Antonio had a bit more one-punch KO power, I might have felt different.

Antonio has enough power to hurt Cotto. Cotto's chin isn't very good, but only a good fighter can expose this weakness. Poor little Alfonzo... he was outclassed in every category and never had a chance to hurt Cotto.

One advantage that Antonio has is he has a concrete skull and good protection of his body. He doesn't get hurt. That means he can get to Cotto by taking some shots and start punching like a maniac to hurt Cotto.

But Antonio should box, his long arms can be a nightmare.

Why Are People Still Saying Cotto Doesn't Have A Beard?!?!?!

Because an elite Fighter is never supposed to feel pain. Even if he was being hit by big punchers, or hit by a little puncher on the temple.

i'm just wondering if Margarito's fanwagon will empty as fast as it did after the Williams fight....

it still seems like yesterday when people were hailing him as the most feared man in boxing before he became the most overrated fighter out there in those same minds.

Anyone who abandons a Fighter they claimed to be "fans" of in that respect aren't really fans at all.

yeah, ur right.

i was gonna say bandwagon but then that kinda sounds like i'm making Margarito out to be overrated.

Dont let that stop ya Kam. When people read "boricua" in the user text, we kinda assume you hate mexican fighters anyway :icon_chee

I'm going with Cotto in the 10/11

Gonna be a great fight

Fan of both though

Great fight.
I think Cotto should use hard combinations to the body and go away.
If he stays in front of Tony he'll lose because the mexican throws billions of punches when he get close.
I think Tony will try to close the distance because in the center of the ring Cotto's superior boxing skills could bother him.
I hope the winner of this fight will take on the king Floyd.

I don't think Antonio has enough one punch power to get him into serious trouble, but that's my opinion.

The funny thing about Cotto, is i've seen him hurt earlier in his career by a few single power shots (counters that he probably didn't see), but surprisingly absorbs consistent, heavy shots very well. The kid may not have a cast iron chin, but it is solid and he is a lot stronger/tougher than given credit for.

Tony wouldn't have to have single-punch power to get him into serious trouble, just a high volume of uppercuts, if Cotto stood directly in the line of fire of them.

You mean like with a blindfold and cigarette? :D

Seriously though, Cotto has improved a lot in his last several fights and I doubt he'd stay in harms way for multiple uppercuts. You think Margarito's going to land with more consistency than Mosely?

I also think that Cotto's improved jab will let him dictate the pace and range of the fight. He can use it to get inside, he can use it get back outside, etc. Cotto out bullies most of his opponents. He wont be able to do that with Margarito, but I think his superior boxing skills will give him the nod in this one. Cotto by very close decision.

Shane isn't a swarmer. He's got speed, sure, but he wanted to Box Cotto, not bulldoze him.

Fair enough.

I just think Miguel has the durability to deal with Tony's pressure, provided he doesn't just sit there and go toe to toe the entire fight.

Well, he didn't against Adbullaev, who was troubling him on the inside. But then Mohammad's footwork is even slower than Cotto's. So we're talking he'd have to have the mobility and speed of foot to stay at-range, which is no easy task.
