Magney should have lost

This ref should be the ref in championship fights. He lets it go long enough to avoid anyone from crying early stoppage, but not long enough to let the fighters take unwanted damage.

Truth be told, Lonbard barely landed clean, and Magny was not throwing everything into each shot.

Magney even threw the "mangy" slap A few times in Round 2!!!

Barely landed clean? He face planted him twice in one round lol

He was known for gassing before and he's still known for it now.

Sure the situation matters, but this wasn't another guy tiring him out; offensive energy management is his responsibility.

I'm saying if anyone throws that many strikes in one round they are going to gas, doesn't help that he is a ball of muscle.

Hahaha stay mad losers. No one is saying magny is a title contender but the fact that he's beating guys he supposedly shouldn't is hilarious.

This thread is a good reminder that the minority is always the loudest.

You don't know what a gatekeeper is dude.
Someone who will keep beating other fighters on their way up but will never get a title shot and will always mess up once given a top guy.
Bisping, Jon Fitch (after his title shot), Ryan Bader, Clay Guida are just a few examples. I think you don't know what it means "dude".

He had his hands up, continued to move and defend himself, continued to get to his feet multiple times, and when he had his back on the mat, he tried to tie up Lombard's arms multiple times.

Pretty much the definition of "defending yourself intelligently."

Exactly this, Lombard fans are reaching. A better case can be made for the fight being stopped in the 2nd since Lombard was not intelligently defending, he was just laying on his stomach taking 40 unanswered shots. o_O

Magny did everything that he was supposed to in order to demonstrate to the Ref that he was still in the fight.

Thought they could have stopped the fight after Magny face planted for the second time in the first round.
The second 'face plant' was Hector throwing him down from the clinch. He was defending the entire time and the majority of the strikes weren't landing clean.
Magny took some shots but it wasn't as bad as people are saying. He went down about 25 seconds into the round and had Hector tied up and the onslaught stopped just over a minute later. From about 3:30 left into the round until the end he didn't really take too much punishment.

Magny was hurt but was still in the fight...tough dude and a potential WW belt holder.

Magny was recovered before the end of the round. He had a couple close calls, but recovered and fought on.

For comparison, nothing about Lombard's actions were suggesting he could continue.

Magny kept working to improve position. Nothing wrong with how this fight played out.

For me it "could" have been stopped around a min into the fight but I wouldn't say that it was a stone wall TKO situation as Magny improved position quite quickly each time.

KTFO twice? I don't think you know what that word means.

It could have been stopped. Doesn't mean it should have been stopped.

Ref made the right call.

The ref did a great job not stoping the fight when Magny was in trouble.

Sure it was kinda late stoppage when Magny was mauling Lombard, but I won't complain about that.
There is always the option for the corner to from in the towel, which they should had done.

I'm not really a fan of either, had nothing invested in the fight.... Should have been stopped in the first. Lombard got fucked over, pretty much.

How can you possibly consider it " getting fucked over" if the guy not only survives but lays a beating down? It's not like he let him continue for an inordinate amount of time and then won a decision . He flattened lombard out and had his way with......he clearly didn't take too much punishment to be effective.

I'll have to go back and watch it, thought it was from an uppercut at first glance.

Not only did he get back up but he ended the round in control, landing punch after punch on Lombard.

You cannot be 'KTFO' if you block punches, defend yourself, stand up - then start winning.

yea totally should of been stopped but instead the other guy got up and got himself a 10-8 round also while finishing his opponent in the final round, unlike Lombard in the first.
Totally

Magny kept defending himself. It was an upset.....but....Hector did not finish it.

this all the way. if magny had stopped making an attempt to defend for even 2 seconds i'd agree. but that was doing everything he could to stay in the fight. a LOT of other men wouldve begged to be done with that fight. magny won me over.
