Goals & Gains MAGA - Make Awesome Gains Again!

BJJ.

The class focused on Leg Locks; how to apply them and how to counter them. Very technical, and even some of the Blue Belts found it difficult.

First time I've Rolled in almost a month, since I broke a tooth. With a crown fitted and a new gumshield, I was back on the Mats. Predictably, my lack of live sparring told on me. However, I did make some progress. I Tapped a fellow White with an Foot Lock, the first time I've been able to apply it in a live Roll. Even though he eventually beat me 2 - 1, I was still happy with that progress.

The most interesting part of the class for me was Rolling with a Blue Belt. The kid was going about 25% so he'd get into position to apply a Triangle, Arm Bar etc, then just let me go. If he'd gone for it, there's no way I could have stopped him. But for the first time, I could actually read what an opponent was doing. A small but significant milestone. :)

BJJ is a journey. How long have you been at it?

About 9 months now. And you're right: one of the things that makes BJJ so addictive is one can see oneself improve in real time. There is no hiding place on the mats. You know exactly what your level is in relation to everyone you roll with. Feedback is immediate and brutally honest.

Stop getting carded!

One of those shit workouts when everything feels heavy, even the warmups. I've also picked up a couple of injuries: left elbow and lower back. That definitely didn't help. :(

Lower back feels better, but still giving me the occasional twinge. So I trained light today, swapping out SS Bar Box Squats for Hack Squats, which are much easier on the lower back.

Hopefully get back to real Squatting next week, but I'll play it by ear.
