What are their political affiliations???I worked at one of the largest wholesale nurseries full time in the summer months at ages 13-15.
I made 8 dollars an hour. This was my first experience with immigration.
This nursery used to always get busted by the INS (I believe they merged with homeland security) in the 90’s and fined and their workers got deported.
The owners 3rd generation children of the nursery then lobbied politicians on both sides to implement a H1A program. Which passed
So now they offer minimum wage and minimal benefits to the local citizens. When no one shows up or they turn em away in interviews they’re then allowed to use the H1A program.
Now they import the Mexican and shuttle em in, pay for an apartment building nearby where they house em, take em grocery shopping once a week. And pay them less than the federal minimum wage since they’re not technically citizens. Obviously no benefits either.
I worked with a lot of these guys and they had family farms down in Mexico where they would funnel the US dollar to. Some were Latin king members. Some sold coke and weed(they would brag how they grow the stuff and import it then it sell to the white man.) Some were squeaky clean.
This nursery still imports their Mexicans but lately they’ve also been importing Karen’s (SE Asia)
The owners have been doing this business practice since WWII. All the grandkids go to expensive private schools and colleges and get high manageme
If you're arguing they are getting a dose of their own medicine and a nice slice of humble pie....Sure 100% loving that.On a slightly more serious note...
First, it's amusing to see people get upset about the "culture" argument from Vivek when Americans have been criticizing the "culture" in parts of black America, Central and South America, Africa, and the Middle East for years at this point.
Second, Vivek isn't saying anything that many international communities haven't been saying for decades about mainstream American culture. That Americans don't value education high enough, don't work hard enough, have subpar family values, etc. I heard it as a kid with immigrant parents, I hear it from immigrant parents these days as well.
As an argument it misses a lot of important details but, returning to my first point, MAGA America was very comfortable with criticizing other people's culture while pushing for a supposed increased focus on meritocracy in our country and more STEM focus from education.
When 2 successful billionaires say "Meritocracy means that we need to bring in people who have adopted a culture of excellence in STEM fields," MAGA America should be hand clapping.
There are a ton of things wrong with current modern American culture & work ethic. True.
But A pharma bro scammer such as Vivek is one of them.
Also, I'm not going to support any argument that allowsdisingenuous conflict of interest Billionaires like Musk or Vivek to capitalize off exploiting outsiders without a SUBSTANTIAL contribution towards the education and guaranteed positions for Americans to bridge the gap.
Companies should not have better payroll margins or profit in any from this.
Its beyond ridiculous to think of it.
