Movies MAD MAX: FURY ROAD (Dragonlord's Review)

just really watched it for the first time last night on HBO.
mixed reaction tbh.
having seen and liked the first two in the series when they first ran in theaters, and having been disappointed by Thunderdome,
I didn't know what to expect. I think there was a fair amount of miscasting here, an absence of any meaningful dialogue and
and an excess of sand driven car chases.

watchable? sure.
memorable? decidedly not.

I was initially disappointed with Thunderdome, but apart from the the oasis scenes, I loved every second of it.

I've heard some people say that Fury Road didn't feel like a Mad Max movie, and anyone who thinks that does not understand Mad Max movies, or rather focuses on one small aspect they feel is vital to the theme and ignores everything else.

QFT!

Action movies with a lot of depth always tends to get dismissed, people only attaching themselves to the superficial (which is why a lot of remakes and sequels don't work, they ignore all the thematic and symbolic elements that make it such a good film in the first place).

so are there 2 more coming?
That was supposed to be the plan before Miller changed his mind and said he's done with making any more Mad Max films. We'll just have to wait and see how this story is going to develop.

Not a flop but not that great either.

Additional info: Fury Road earned $44 million on DVD/Blu-ray sales.

Is 370 million box office a lot for an R-rated film that cost 150 million to make?

I wonder how profitable they consider it to have been.

Also, and this scares me, it has gotten so much praise maybe they'll make more but not R rated.

So was this movie a flop at the box office?

Box Office Mojo says it grossed 300 million on a budget of 150 million.

That doesn't sound great.

George Miller Says He Is Done Making MAD MAX Movies

While Mad Max: Fury Road brought the post-apocalyptic film franchise roaring back to life in 2015, director George Miller may not be revisiting his creation anytime soon. Or ever.

Following the Golden Globes, Miller told Page Six that he was done with Mad Max movies because they simply take too long to make.

“I won’t make more Mad Max movies,” he said. “Fury Road with Charlize Theron, Zoë Kravitz, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Riley Keough was forever getting completed. If you finish one in a year, it’s considered a leap of faith. Start, stop, start again.

“I’ve shot in Australia in a field of wild flowers and flat red earth when it rained heavily forever. We had to wait 18 months and every return to the US was 27 hours. Those ‘Mad Maxes’ take forever. I won’t do those anymore.”

Miller’s latest statement conflicts with some of his previous ones, where he confirmed that at least two more Mad Max movies are in the works with Tom Hardy. On the other hand, he’s also said that he wouldn’t be against someone else directing a Mad Max movie, so maybe he’s planning to hand the reins over for the next installment of the franchise.

Are these independent movies? If not, you'd think the studio would make sure these things get released within a reasonable amount of time.

I saw the discussion about how there might not be any more Max movies and checked BOM to see how much it made and how much incentive they had. I was shocked to see the numbers.

This could be REALLY bad news for people who prefer R rated films.

I think for a rated R movie it did fairly well. The box office is only part of a films profits and I don't think anyone was expecting this to be a 300 million dollar hit.

"For an R rated movie" is what scares me.

So is Mel Gibson the Extra with the orange mustache and blue eyes?

You know what though? Was there really too much questionable material in this that earned the R-rating? There was that baby scene, which was a little fucked up, but other than that, I couldn't find much of anything that earned that R-rating. The violence wasn't gory, apart from some sparse shots that never lingered. The language was fine. There was no sex.

It's a franchise where I think they could make it PG-13, and I don't think it would hurt it all that much. Unless "bizarre imagery" a reason for an R-rating.

If you're curious, look here.

Honestly seemed like Mad Max PG 13 to me.

Edit: beaten to it.

I didnt like the original Mad Max. Too slow and boring.

The Road Warrior was fucking awesome!

Thunderdome started out cool, but the whole "lost kids" sideplot completely derailed and ruined the movie.

It was mentioned, although they considered it graphic.

Eight obese woman are seen nude and breast feeding, all nudity is covered by machinery and all you see is some cleavage, legs and arms. (Not graphic)

Kind of suprised since he promised more max movies.

And lol handing it off to someone else. Hit or miss with this one. It can really flop or turn out well since being unmotivated can make it half assed
