Movies MAD MAX: FURY ROAD (Dragonlord's Review)

MMFR be stylin on alot of movies this year 😎

...if I had watched in the theatre with big screen and big sound I may have rated a tad bit higher.
Good, good. Include it in your personal mission to see this in IMAX when it's released on the 11th. Your mind will change.

Sit in the middle.

... try criticizing this movie in any way on here and expect to be ridiculed, told you have bad taste in movies and considered a blasphemer.
I have the same viewpoint as MMAmathwiz on this - anyone with any critisizm towards this movie is met with ridicule and personal comments. It may be my perception but I don't think this is the first time this has been noted.

It's the same everywhere. Ya don't like a movie everyone else did, you're labelled a troll and a hater. I happened to like Fury Road myself, but I'm not gonna jump down the throat of someone who didn't like it.

Learn that there are different opinions, people.

jesus fuckin' christ.

But, but what if the haters are all religious folks?!

Tom Hardy didn't look right for the role.
They should've brought back Mel Gibson again.
I mean if they brought back Arnold for another Terminator film, Jean-Claude Van Damme for another Kickboxer film, Bruce Willis for another Die Hard film, and Sylvester Stallone for another Rocky film, then they damn well should've done something with Gibson.

Just look at Mel right here.
Even without makeup he looks Marvelous!

Tom Hardy is right for EVERY role.

Actually I'm a concept designer, I wouldn't actually be involved in the script or storyline for the most part. And if Sharknado 4 offered me some work for concepts I would take it for the right price as one cannot be too finicky in such a competitive market. Btw, I thought the concept and character design work for Max Max was exceptional, some high level stuff there.

But thanks for the encouragement, sorry I didn't give your fav. movie a 10/10. You should probably go back to serving burgers while I'm going after my dream career.

I like Hardy (recently saw the Drop and thought he was great) but I wish they would have done more with him in this film.

This movie should have been called Furiosa because that's who it was really about, Max was just a side kick in this film.

You could say that both Max and Furiosa were the war rigs sidekicks.

As long as the majority make outlandish statements to call it the best movie of all time then I will continue to be invested in this film.
I get that your last post before this was a crack at satire, but you're genuinely the only one I've seen write that it's the best movie of all time, let alone the majority. Are you sure you have an accurate impression, or is it just a hyperbolical way of expressing yourself that I take too seriously? By all means, I love it to death, but I'm not nearly as hung up on ranking movies of different genres and eras as you seem to be in this thread, and I generally think that's a pretty rare perspective to have for moviegoers.

Some of my favorite films are the most polarizing and people have absolutely no hesitation to call some of those films dog shit, and I never called this film dog shit, I gave it a very generous 7.5, I would have actually scored it lower but I took into account that the hype negatively affected my experience and I never viewed in theaters with big screen and big sound. As I suspected that this was a theater film, but to me the greatest movies don't require to be viewed in theater to fully appreciate.
You said this allready, and I wasn't sure what point you were trying to make back then either.

I usually don't go into a movie thread to rain on other peoples parade but as a visual artist myself who plans on one day working in the film industry I am genuinely curious as to the perceived perfection of the film.
I'd suggest googling for articles then, if you haven't seen stuff to your statisfaction in this thread. Those and reviews will probably give you quite a bit to go on.

Even with my favorite films I am willing to acknowlege faults in the film but their is a certain lack of objectivity and humility with fans of this film as evidenced by this thread:

- someone criticizes the acting? no it's perfect.
- someone criticizes the lack of story? no it's perfect.
You are aware that people have actually argued these points at length, right? It's not like you've just been rebuffed with people holding their hands over their ears and shouting "no" repeadedly. I haven't called it perfect once, and I can't really remember anybody else doing it either. What we're doing is disagreeing with actual specifics in your criticism.

You say you want to understand, but you're not currently acting that way. If you did, you'd actually listen to our explanations for why we thought it had a strong narrative and why it worked for us. Instead your summary of our position is just "no, it's perfect", and trying to seem like some martyr. You're both misrepresenting your opposition and actually complaining that we're disagreeing with you.

If the intent you describe here is sincere, I'd suggest you invest more time in reading than writing. And more time in questioning than criticising. If you intend something else (for example if your intent is expressing frustration at how this movie is recieved) you can obviously carry on.

This may sound a bit offensive but to me this film is representative of the current societal trend of base level, adrenaline shot in the arm style of entertainment, it's an assault on the senses similar to a MTV music videos, with a distinct lack of depth and soul. It's flashy, fast, loud, ugly and in your face and a bit annoying.
I don't think the last part is offensive, but I'm of the personal opinion that it's extremely inaccurate. Ask yourself the question why this is universally praised and e.g. Bay's movies are generally panned hard. Look at the differences, and start thinking about them.

If you want to know why, that is.

As for the part about it's place in movie history, I generally think it's a little early for that discussion. Films need time to sink in and to be put into context. I wouldn't care too much about it.
I've watched the film 2.5 times and could not finish it in one sitting every time and I am considering watching it on imax. I am morbidly curious as the incredible level of praise this film is receiving, I feel like its become a personal mission to uncover the supposed greatness of this film and as an artist it has become a bit of a personal project to increase my understanding of what audiences respond to.
Most love it. That's ok. You don't like it that much. That's ok as well. We've all been there with one film or another. No need to keep watching stuff you don't really appreciate. I doubt it will change anything.

man how many more times are we gonna hear that line
idk but i wish i got a loonie for each time

I watched this film yesterday for the first time...it was pretty good! I love Tom Hardy, but he was WRONG for this role.

He was harder to understand than Bane - and he barely said (or did) shit.

Max barely says anything since road warrior. Max is a man of a few words.

In fact in road warrior he had less dialogue then fury road.

One of the worst movies I've ever seen. 30 minutes into it and it was death.

Doesn't compare to the first one. Not on the same level.

Sorry to hear. At least there are other movies out there.

Well the first one was pre apocalypse. Law n order was on its way out and people still looked normal and wore normal outfits.

Maybe post apocalyptic culture aint your thing.

I can definitely appreciate the effort that went into this movie.. the detail is brilliant.

The story is just a little boring is all. Haha yes good that there are other movies out there.

Rewatched it last night on Blu Ray. Still think it's great. Has high rewatchability. I've decided when playing video games with friends I will say "WITNESS ME" or "LIVE. DIE. LIVE AGAIN" before rushing out to get my ass kicked.

As someone who watches just about every decent movie that comes out, this movie is insanely over rated.

So many better movies have come out in the past two years i cant even count.

Nightcrawler, interstellar, ex machina, fury etc etc etc..

Its decent but nothing special

I loved Nightcrawler but I can't compare the two. One is a drama heavily driven by the development of the central character, and the other is basically just an action movie.

In terms of pure action movies I personally can't think of too many that I thought were as good or better that came out in the past couple of years. One of the things I appreciate about the movie which I'm guessing many other people do as well is that it doesn't try to build up a story for an hour or have long droughts of non-action. It just got straight to the point after the inital 20 minutes or so.

I mentioned before though, I think Mad Max could have used some more gore. I'm not big on blood and guts, but I think seeing limbs flying off during explosions and stuff like that would have fit the atmosphere of the movie. It was already rated R (don't really understand why) so might as well have added it imo

I have probably seen the movie 20+ times now just because my 3 year old daughter loves it and guardians at the moment. For a full action packed movie, I can't pick out any faults. It never drags and the score which I thought was sometimes not fitting for the some scenes I have changed my mind on. It is a spectatal from start to finish and that is completely original.

Last night, I watched the expendable and completely get why people say a lot of action movies let the plot get in the way. The plot only slowed that movie down and the only cool parts were the action scenes. Movies like predator got it right. There's an Alien trying to kill me in the jungle. I don't need to know more. Aliens, bunch of aliens trying to kill the crew. I don't care where they came from or the everyone's backstory. Pacific rim, big robots fighting giant monsters. the movie skips the entire backstory of the start of the invasion and the creation of the robot program to keep things moving. If I was a screenplay editor I would take a black marker to any action flick and cross half of the movie out. Some can handle more story but IMHO 95% are bloated.
