i read around that people who bought the pressure passing system for lovato are getting billed $79 a month for online access they did not sign up for.

Seems when you buy the dvds, they give you a free month of online access. great. BUT they also sign you up at $79 a month automatically after 30 days.

i bought the dvd set recently and really like it. then i checked my spam box and saw an email from lovato stating this:
(After your 30 day free trial, you will automatically be entered into the Coaching Program monthly payments at $79 per month, if you would like to cancel: Just email: [email protected],
If you cancel you will not receive any of the things mentioned above.)

is he serious with this shit? we love you lovato, but this is scummy as fuck. this is the worst i have seen from these "enter your email" sites.

hopefully everyone sees that email or sees this info on the message boards and doesn't get ganked.

Holy crap!! That's shady! And I'm a big Lovato fan.

That is...disappointing, to say the least. One of the guys I really respect (and he should know better, being an american).

He needs to immediately apologize, refund all unused subscriptions, and acknowledge that this was wrong and misleading. That would be the best way to get out of this.

theres got to be something wrong about this, even if he is automatically charging people, 79$ a month is ridiculous, MG Medes Galvao Alliance all charge about the same 29...

me too

and the DVDs set it pretty damn good. definitely worth the $147.

But this automatically signing you up for stuff if you don't explicitly email them no is ridiculous. sometimes you sign up for a website and get suckered into another one because you did not uncheck some box. but this is even worse than that.

but i was just buying a dvd set and i would have totally missed that if someone else didn't bitch about it in another thread as i never really check my spam folder on my spam email account.

I think the Americans invented it, seeing how this is how all credit check and porn websites operate.

Wow, that's really too bad. Incredibly shady and overpriced when you consider what is already out there.

Hey, This is Shaun Smith, I manage the Marketing for Lovato and I want to address this...

First of all, let me apologize for anyone who got charged that did not want to be charged. I know how frustrating that can be.

Also, no one will have to "fight" for a refund.

If you do not want the service, we will gladly give you your money back, immediately.

Again, I am sorry for this if you did not know that you would be charged at the end of your 30 day free trial. Our goal is to provide everyone with super high quality BJJ instruction, and not to trick people or get people to pay that don't want to.

There were multiple emails that were sent out to remind those that were set to be charged. With big bold print in two different places stating the charges and the option to cancel. We also gave people an option to click for their Bonus DVD with the system, to be sure that they knew what was happening. Also, on the order page it said that this was a free trial and would auto enroll at the end of 30 days.

And as a side note Rafael's Online Coaching program, is much more than a membership site, it is a personal coaching program with direct interaction with Professor Lovato himself. We made this for people who wanted to further their training and connection to Lovato, on an ongoing basis. There are live seminars, monthly DVD's, coaching calls and far more then a normal memebership site like Mendes or Marcelo. Although those are both great. Just not the same.

Again I am really sorry for anyone's inconvenience and please email me at [email protected] if you would like a refund or have any further questions.

Again, if somehow you were unaware, please just email and your money will be back in your account right away.

- Shaun

Love the "if somehow you were unaware" part. Sounds like they're doing the right thing, but what % of people who bought this DVD will ever read this thread? I wouldn't buy anything from any of these "Mastermind" guys after this.

Yeah, not a fan of "opt-out" trials. They're legal, but IMO it's a predatory practice designed to take advantage of folks who don't read the fine print. That being said, caveat emptor. Be suspcious of anything "free", and know what you're getting yourself into.

Hopefully Lovato is unaware of this situation, and will discontinue the practice when it is brought to his attention.

- Shaun .

Or you could just not automatically charge people to begin with.
If you want to offer a new program to them then give them the choice to sign up for it not to opt out of it.

My exact thoughts reading that bit of bullshit. It's one of those, "I'm sorry I got caught," situations.

Agreed. Offer the free trial with no auto-enroll. If they use it during the trial and find it valuable, they'll want to sign up when it ends. The auto-enroll is pretty much an admission that they don't think people will sign up after the trial if it requires any effort whatsoever on their part....not exactly a ringing endorsement of their own product.

Should be very easy to dispute the charge with your credit card company in this case.

I think the Americans invented it, seeing how this is how all credit check and porn websites operate.

That's what I mean. If it was some brazilian guy and english is his second language the producer of the site could have convinced him its a good idea or something.

Lovato has no excuse.

I don't know, basically every single online subscription I've ever used has had a free trial period followed by automatic billing if you don't cancel.

Are you automatically billed just from getting the DVD, or do you actually have to activate your trial on his website?

If you get automatically billed just from buying the DVD even if you never log onto his training site then that's scummy. If you only get billed once you sign up on the free trial, I think that's on people for being dumb dumbs because basically every single internet subscription service ever does that.

My understanding is that when you purchase the DVD set, your credit card info is then used to bill you for the online subscription service after 30 days. Scummy indeed.
