lovatos school is right down the street from my house and on their website it says they give 30 day free trial,but when i went there they said after you sign up a contract you get the first month free...kinda weird,so i didnt end up signing up!!

Damn, this is very disappointing to see.
Not a fan of the 'auto-signup' following the 'trial period'.
As already mentioned, its fundamental design is to exploit and IMO it represents a very shady element of marketing & business as the payment occurs within disillusionment... "Free trial".

I don't know, basically every single online subscription I've ever used has had a free trial period followed by automatic billing if you don't cancel.

Are you automatically billed just from getting the DVD, or do you actually have to activate your trial on his website?

If you get automatically billed just from buying the DVD even if you never log onto his training site then that's scummy. If you only get billed once you sign up on the free trial, I think that's on people for being dumb dumbs because basically every single internet subscription service ever does that.

i just bought the dvd set. i rechecked my emails. there is an email saying you bought the dvds and you will be given a login to the website. then there is another email that says your login info to the website. NO WHERE does it say you will be automatically billed monthly.

and yes, if you sign up for a trial on a website then that is fine if it automatically bills you. but i did not sign up for a free trial or any website period. i just bought a dvd set. again, the dvd set is worth every penny. i just never saw a scam like this.

i never got billed but i got it less than a month ago. i sent them an email saying cancel that shit and they replied that they did.

if someone is planning on buying the dvds, just remember to cancel that shit right away.

I also cancelled early, which they did amazingly fast via email. I was disappointed that when you purchased the dvd set a PayPal option is not provided, clearly to have your cc info for the auto enrollment. Also I thought I would be able to access the much hyped kimura techniques as well as Rader's calf slicer vids as an added bonus for the dvd set purchase. Apparently they're only freebies while you're an active member. They should have provided basic access for the advertised features that came with the purchase and then a VIP access for those wanting to upgrade to monthly membership.

Basically these guys who run marketing schemes like this know that there's a certain percentage of people who won't read the small print or check their e mails obsessively, therefore these guys get billed.

When you go berserk at the missing $79, they say it's all legal, in the contract, etc and it's your own fault for not reading the emails, but that is what they were banking on to get that money in the first place. Even if they cancel it, they will probably get to keep the first $79 you paid as it was within the legal terms of the contract. It is a pure scumbag business practice, practiced only by the shadiest guys who I would personally have nothing to do with, perhaps I'll torrent his DVD set, see how he likes it when people take from his pocket without asking.

Also this Shaun Smith guy is undoubtedly a scumbag, don't listen to his bleating about 'providing the best quality service', this is what these guys always say when they get caught out, they play the victim to try to make you feel guilty about calling them out.

See above. If a brazilian came to the states and started doing this you could chalk it up to ignorance of how people would take it. A 3rd party could have sold him on the idea.

i'm right there with you fighting talk. i try to respect people with proven grappling prowess, especially people who want to share that knowledge, but when i get on here and see certain people posting cliche alpha-male silver bullet PR bullshit, then re-re-bumping their own thread with 'thanks', it's pretty off-putting. especially the people with 'aggressive marketing strategies' who say shit like 'it's just business'.

i mean, they're better than me, but i'm not selling white belts a $300 DVD set and seminar seats for some bullshit system. don't even get me into the sports psychology shit. i guess i should start rambling on in front of people about how to be a successful competitor - i've never won the ADCC either

are they sharing this scam money with the people they got their knowledge from? i doubt it.

Is that right? Because judging from his posts, he's either trying to pretend that he isn't LI, or he really isn't.
