Looks like PBF is going Ghostbusting on May 4th

Oh I agree that PBF is a great inside fighter as well...

I"m just saying that the Ghost will have his moments and put PBF in a few precarious situations.

Could be. I don't hate the fight as much as some people seem to. I think Floyd wins convincingly but Guerrero is a durable dude and has skills to back it up. Never was a big fan of Robert's but I respect his skills and he won't just be content with the big payday, he'll come to fight and won't break easily.

Apparently you're not allowed to say father time is catching up to Floyd around these parts but it's happening.

He hasn't used his athleticism since the JMM fight and that's the real reason he's starting to take more punishment. He's been tagged in his last 3 fights.

Floyd will still win this by UD but he isn't what he used to be.

He got tagged against Corley, Judah and Castillo too.

its sort of absurd to say a boxer is fading because he got hit.

love how you avoided the athleticism part. typical actually.

My point is he doesn't use his legs like he has in the past. he stands directly in front of his opponent now and he's been hit MORE and cleaner than in the past. 3 fights in a row he hasn't used his legs. its a trend that you and many others obviously don't see.

can you provide an example of 3 straight fights where floyd hasn't used his legs like he has recently?

Really?

I've been saying it since the Mosely fight.

His legs aren't "gone" but I'd say he can't (as opposed to "won't") move around and dive in-and-out as much as he used to. For much of his career it was his footspeed backed up by his reflexes and technical defence that carried him out of danger; now he stands his ground and relies on his reflexes, head and upperbody movement, parrying and counters to see him through. In recent bouts he's become almost Tony-esque in his defence.

Meh, when he loses a fight or comes close to losing a fight, I'll agree he's getting along. All I've seen is an adjustment in his style (which he did once before, around the time he fought Ndou) and in one of his last two he's fought one of the top 2 or 3 fighters on his resume. Getting caught by a few jabs from Cotto should never have been any shock to anyone.

well, floyd just got back to working at the gym. no filming allowed (except the people filming for some documentary). but you can see him in this video working in the background. he and King Mo have a little conversation half way through too

C'mon now, let's be honest here. PBF got caught by more then a few jabs.

As a matter of fact, 2nd to maybe Castillo no other fighter was able to land cleanly on PBF as much as Cotto did.

And I"m not sure if it was because COtto was was really good, or PBF was serious about "putting on a show for the fans by standing in front of him" or PBF lost some spring in his step.

Guerrero aint gonna get away with that holding and hit bs he got away with in the Berto fight. Team Mayweather will talk that up for months leading to May 4th. His clash with Berto was a nasty foul fest. That will not happen in a Floyd Mayweather fight.

He is going to have a lot of problems if he cant hold and hit his man.
Also Floyd will foul him back if he does. I predict the Ghost gets tooled up. I will watch it. :icon_evil

Excellent observations. This will be exciting. Floyd will need to bring it early.

I feel like Cotto's success was exaggerated a bit. He only had really one round where he was in any sort of control, the 8th or 9th round I think.

I believe a key reason why Cotto's success is "exaggerated" or maybe over blown because none of us are use to seeing PBF getting hit that often.

Cotto is a great fighter with a good jab.

Prior to the Mosely fight Floyd's generally darted in and out to avoid offence and land his own punches... but in the Mosely fight and since he's basically stood his ground and beat the hell out of people. Despite the fact he keeps himself in near perfect physical shape (outside of his diet) I don't think it's too much of a reach to say a part of that is likely due to him being 35.

As I'm fairly certain I said in another thread I think Floyd's starting to fall off the top of the mountain... but when you're that much higher than everyone else it takes a lot of falling before they're even close to you. Floyd hasn't fallen that fast or that far.

ANother key reason why fighters like PBF have such a long shelf life is because they rarely get hit...

prior to his fight with Cotto...how many times did you see PBF get flushly hit?

Castillo, Zab Judah, Mosley??

Well, he's 35 so probably. Predicting a boxer in his 30s is getting old is like predicting the sun will come up tomorrow.

That said, I think had he been using his feet more against some of the guys he's been in with lately, he would have struggled more. He fought the perfect fight to fight against a guy like Mosley. Walk him down, jab him hit him enough to make him honest. Easy fight.

The story on Ortiz is that you can break him,so that what Floyd was doing.Walking the guy down and beating his ass. The only time I saw Ortiz connect was when Floyd got on his bike for a minute.

Its really the same thing with Cotto. Cotto does well with guys who box. Quintana, Foreman, Malignaggi.... Guys who beat Cotto do it how? By beating him down.

I need to see Floyd get hurt and either get stopped or seriously come close to getting stopped before Ican agree he's really slipping.

He was ready to go against Chop Chop.
