I don't think so. He's talked frequently about wanting to stay active. He's also talked about how he'll fight whoever UFC wants him too.

He might be on the shelf for a while by going this route. But I would think no matter what they'd give him the shot eventually

Scared? Of watching a fight? I'm not emotionally invested in the outcome I don't care who wins. I just think a TS is undeserving.

Islam has already beat 5 of the top 10 LWs excluding Gaethje, Chandler, Dariush, Gamrot, and Max. Arman could have had the fight like 4 times already but he doesn't appear to want it.

Why are you so nervous of Islam fighting Ilia that you would rather not watch Islam fight again for over a year? What?

I want to see how how Ilia performs at LW before being gifted a TS and leapfrogging the entire division.

Well, Max is #5 at LW and Ilia just gave him his first KO loss. This pretending this fight is super unjustified is some of the most ridiculous mental gymnastics.

The fight was at FW. Have Ilia fight a legit top 10 LW at LW and it puts it to bed if he deserves a title shot. Have him fight Oliviera, how confident are you he gets the win?

Pretty confident. Oliveira is the only person worthy of fighting Ilia or getting a title shot at this point. Everybody else is cooked.
 
UFC should just hard refuse him a 155 title fight then, to send a message that you cant be a lil bitch. Even if all the contenders at LW get totally cleaned out blowing their chance, keep passing him over down to the unranks if they have to, at least till he gets a number 1 contender win at 155

Then give him Charles. It doesn't matter, just be a ranked LW before you demand a title shot. You can either defend your own title several times until there are no more good contenders in that division and then move up, or you can just move up and beat a top contender there for a title shot. You don't get to skip the contenders in your own division because they don't have any belts to give you, then skip over all the contenders in the next division too.
 
It's Islam who needs to nut up and just fight the man. It'd essentially be Champion vs Champion.

I'm fine with Charles vs Ilia. I think that's a great fight. It's just weird how people would rather not watch Islam fight at all over just giving Ilia the shot. Makes me think there's a reason for that, and it's not that it's super unjust. Why would Islam not want his biggest payday ever?

He's nothing at all right now because his only win at LW was Jai Herbert 3 years ago. Of course you don't get to make a guy lose muscle to fight you at a smaller weight and then transfer his win in a different division onto yourself. Court McGee didn't get put in the MW rankings because he beat Whittaker at WW.

As a fan, I want to see Islam fight. He's one of the GOATs. I don't want to see him sit on the shelf for a long time with no fight. I don't want to see him in a squash match over someone who isn't a challenge. I don't want to see him fight someone scared of fighting him. I don't think I'm really asking a whole lot here, honestly.

Book Ilia vs Charles if they must, but get it done quick.

Seems pretty easy then, fight Charles then call out Islam as a ranked contender and fight him in August. That's like 7 months between defenses for Islam, which is normal for champs, and that provides some upside for Islam to at least notch another top 5 on his record instead of an unranked guy.
