Lets talk fishing

Yellowfin?
Yes.

And big enough for a family meal.

Wife was staring at me because I got blood all over the back of the boat. But no dinner.

ETA: I got this guy on our last passage but threw him back. Too small.

My usual hand line set up with a bungee and teaser.

is that a flying fish lure?

Nah, that's a teaser that plows the water about 5 foot in front of the lure. Fish like to see activity at the surface.
The weirdest and biggest deal here is the bubble fly rig. It’s called whipping over here. Spinning guys like to do the same thing w trout but over here it’s an island wide phenomenon. Used to catch mostly reef fish. Trevally.

The clear bubble chugs along the surface about 5ft in front of a large tied fly

My horrible no good luck day continues. Went to the river again Tuesday. Second cast, hooked into a smallie and lost it. It was not a big one. About twenty mins later, I hooked into a good one. I fought here for about 45 seconds and she kept digging. I figured she was really big and then I saw her-only about two pounds. Then she broke me off. Ten pound braid and it just snapped.

Heard a rumor the bass fishing on the river has caught fire. This would have been the Marietta pool they were talking about, but not all that far from you. We know how rumors go of course, but it sounded like it was non stop action the last few days. Crankbaits, spinnerbaits, and buzzbaits is what they claimed were working best.

I think Cudas taste good too.

Word is the river is on fire. The weather sucking doesn’t help matters with the rain, but I haven’t had much difficulty hooking into one, just keeping them. And where I fish the space is limited because of other anglers and very limited access along the river, so everyone goes to the same area. I usually have to squeeze in somewhere to fish. So once you catch one or two in an area, you’re out of room to move. It’s kind of nice though, having really short fishing jaunts

Lost another big smallie tonight on the Ohio. I set the hook good but it threw my spinnerbait when it kept jumping. Three pound range. I am going to try using a leader with mono instead of straight braid.

I love smallies because they fight and jump, but it's always a bummer when they manage to spit the hook.

I always use a fluorocarbon leader. Some fish, like the walleye, are leader shy. It also makes a better/stealthier presentation in waters with high fishing pressure.

Largemouth in the pond have really turned on. Had nothing to do last night so figured I’d waste some time with the wind, cold, and rain. Caught at least a dozen in an hour. Similar again tonight. Nothing big yet, but its nice getting bit for a change. Most on a wacky rigged stick bait, couple on a spinnerbait. I see a school or two of fry swimming around already. Took the boat out to a local lake the last two weekends. Few decent crappie and just a handful of dink saugeye. Pretty much a waste of fuel. Keep saying its gotta get better.

We have tons of fry, males making new beds, & some bass pairing up still....its crazy

What’s ur preferred connecting knot? Fukin loved spinnerbaits for bass. It’s underrated nowadays for whatever reason. No one’s using them

I can only use a spinner bait all season and it just smashes the fish up here. I don’t, as I enjoy throwing different baits. Any new person i take, I just give them a spinner bait and they have a blast.
