Lets talk fishing

I had been trying to find one for months and they weren’t available so I bought a used kayak only to find out they were in stock again. Bought one and sold the other one the same day. 2CA18F56-7374-4514-A7C4-5477C6D297B7.jpeg

I’ve thought about getting kayaks before, but I’m a klutz and don’t fancy the idea of being in great white country on a skinny boat. Your yak looks pretty stable, I’d consider a yak in freshwater but on the ocean I’m sticking to the bigger boats.

Should be a Book thread and a Fishing thread stickie, Instead if these incessant vs movie this got this star wars this thread.

This was my haul on a fishing charter on the weekend, the whiting were going off. Can't remember the name of the one on the bottom but the rest are whiting, one of the better eating fish going around.

One on the bottom looks like a slimy or scalie mackerel, the rest are King George Whiting, top table fish

Love fishing I was born on the coast and grew up working on a shrimp boat. If there was any real money in fishing I would do it. Nice kayak up top I sold mine, feeling the itch to buy a new one.

This is my third in a year. The first one, I dragged too much. It was a few
Months after my back surgery and I had trouble carrying the 89 lb yak. So I wore a hole in the bottom and sank it. Luckily, I made it almost to an island in the middle of this lake. I had to drain it and paddle like hell to the shore.

My second kayak I had for two weeks before I got this one-which was what I had wanted for six months but it was sold out.

This new kayak is very stable, as was my first one a sun dolphin Kingsport 12. I can stand on my new one and could stand and fish from the Kingsport as well. I have never felt like I would tip except when I sank the other one. It is no fault of that kayak-it was
Mine for dragging it. I have repaired that kayak and offered it to my friend.

I did not love my second kayak. Only had it out once. It was a bass pro shops ascend 12t, which run $650. My Kingsport was $550 on sale and my new one was $750.

Notes about kayaks.
1. Do your research. Know what you want and watch as many videos on YouTube as you can find. Do not just buy a cheap one. You can get deals and find them on sale.
2. Take care of them. Don’t drag them like I did.
3. The hardest part for me is loading and securing the kayak. This one is heavy as the other one-80 lbs. don’t think “oh, it’s
Only 80 lbs, I can lift that.” It is very unwieldy and spread out weight that can be tough to maneuver. I can lift a shit ton even after my back surgery, but carrying these things and loading them can be tough. I lost mine on top of my jeep and secure it using straps, but sometimes it salutes a bit. So having a good system is key-kayak racks would be best, but I don’t want to spend the several hundred dollars for cross bars and a rack. So I bought relatively inexpensive ones and use yoga mats to avoid scratching my car anymore than I did when I was learning how to do it.
4. Kayaks open a whole new world to fishing. I catch more and bigger fish than I ever have before. I can reach areas other anglers can’t and can take more equipment. Just started using a fish finder-but mostly for depth reasons. It has not helped me catch anything yet-I still rely on knowing where the fish will be-under logs and I use top water which is my favorite way to catch them.

Nice cat. I only fish fresh water for bass. But I love being on the water in a kayak. After I damaged my first one, all I did was plan to get a new one because I felt like I really needed that freedom to move around the lakes.

I was close to getting a kayak. I should have pulled the trigger. I have a couple kayaks, but not fishing ones. I even put a couple rod holders in them. With the lockdown here, marinas couldn’t put boats in the water. I wanted to get out and do some crappie fishing. Although I have a couple spots from land I can do. Who knows.

I say go for it, Yaking is big here we got stores with literal warehouses of any yak you want to buy. I won’t go over 1100 on one. I have a few friends that paid 4K for their tricked out Hobies, I think at that point I would just buy a boat. Tight lines

Idk how to fucking post a picture correctly. Some northerns from last years ice fishing. 27.5 and 27.25 long

Did some river fishing on a little stretch in the Midwest, mixed bag all around. Caught my first brookies, some babies and a few eating size. The biggest chubs I’ve ever seen and some shiners that were kept for bait, some largemouth, nothing special in size and at another spot literally the biggest bluegills I’ve ever seen, all of them over 10” and fat. Some fun times when you get that kind of variety and constant action.

Just finished a small pond by me. Caught a 1 lb largie.

Any fish is better than no fish so I will take it.

buy a cheap plastic John boat instead to fish out of.

I used to have an 11’er that had an alumnum frame and plastic shell to fish in some really shallow hard to get to places I wanted to explore.

They fish 1000x better.

I had a trolling motor on mine but it could handle up to a 5hp motor of so desires.

I’ll try and find some picks of it. I posted some here ages and ages ago.

think they are on my photobucket. Need to figure out hot to get into it again.

I was going to go fishing today, checked in my garage for my stuff and I couldn't find it. I then realized that my brother by "accident" took my fishing gear when he moved down to NC
