Lets talk fishing

Ok can someone explain this to me? I bought a "left handed baitcaster reel" because I "reel"with my left hand while casting with my right. Seems obvious as thats how spinner reels seem to work. Somehow baitcaster reels are supposed to be opposite. I bought a left handed one and its working for me
Wtf?

Tldr; I'm right handed and somehow a baitcaster right handed type reel isnt for right handed fishermen.

Baitcasters were almost exclusively right hand retrieve for a long time. I have no idea why. People just accepted the fact that they'd reel right handed instead of left handed like most people do with a spinning reel. It never made sense to me. Therefore when I taught myself to use a bait caster, I bought left hand retrieve. It only seems natural if you're already a left hand retrieve on a spinning reel

So I'm not crazy. Thank you

Very keen for our restrictions to ease, i'm guessing there will be a shitload of squid down at our beach cabin with no one fishing of late.

Of course, I got the left handed version. I cants stand using right handed reels where you cast with your right and switch hands. It makes no sense to me. With the reel on the left side, I never have to move my hands

I'm the opposite, part of the reason I never got an open face/spinning reel until recently was because I cant reel left. First thing I did when buying them was put the knob on the right side.

to each their own. I think it is all in how you’re taught

What hand you cast with. Thats how baitcasters are sold.

I'm a lefty. All original baitcasters are perfect for me lol.

Considering they didn't offer anything else for an extremely long time I got lucky.

Most spinning reels now days have handles that be can be switched from side to side.

Baitcasters with short grips, I used to cast with left hand and go straight to reeling. The baitcast rods I have now have longer grips and require both hands to cast, they're mostly for salt water bass and stripers. Swimbaits, poppers and larger plugs

The fun part about a left hand retrieve baitcaster is that they seem to go on clearance a little more often because most people still buy the RH models.... the bad part about LH is not all models or gear ratios are available in that configuration.

Spinning reels have reversible handles. Baitcasters don’t. And most baitcaster reels are reel with the right hand.

Pulled the boat out today. Winterizing and wrapping. A bit early, but probably won’t get out again this year. Been busy.

I was taught right handed growing up. At some point probably in my teens I realized I can switch the spinning to left. Been left ever since. Even with casting.

Hey ladies, anyone do any ice fishing?
